Sony ZV E10 Mark 1 with the kit lens is amazing. You don’t need to upgrade of Mark II (no rolling shutter, better battery and sensor). It’s reliable, pro camera features, some specific features for solo video content creator, autofocus is the best in the industry, price is right, etc. If you want a blurry background, pick a Sigma 16mm f/1.4 to make a sweet 2 cameras setup. r/videography on Reddit: Looking for versatile camera(s) to start a podcast and "higher" quality youtube videos
October 7, 2023 -

Hello,

I am about to graduate college in the spring and I am looking to kickstart my passion of podcasting and content creation. I am willing to invest roughly 500-1000$ on one or more cameras.

In a perfect world, I would like to have one camera that would be good for podcasts and filming aesthetic environments like the heart of a major city and different aspects of nature.

Keep in mind... I am VERY new to all of this and don't really understand the terminology of shutter speed, lighting, and lenses. So any information would be very helpful.

Is it possible to do both of these with one camera?

Thanks.

Hey all, small podcast just hit 62 episodes recently and are looking to upgrade our current camera (iPhone 12 Pro Max) to a camera that can record for an unlimited amount of time.

Previously used my Canon D3400 I bought years ago, the footage look so much better on that camera in 1080p, than my iPhone does with 4K resolution. Only issue was that it only had a record limit of 29m59s and we would constantly get up to stop-start the camera, sometimes being so invested in the conversation that we miss our cue to stop start and we miss video on our podcast

Budget: $1500 AUD including accessories Resolution: 4K Recording Limit: Unlimited

Would also love to know what some good lighting would be good under $500AU (2-Man podcast, occasionally with guests)

Hello Guys, I’m planning to upgrade my canon m50. I would want some recommendations for camera/ accessories that will make recording for hours less of a hassle.

I am thinking for buying any one of these Sony Fx30 ( Bit expensive) Sony 6700 (doesn’t record 4K 24 for 3 hours) Black magic 4K ( not newly updated) Canon R7 ( cannot charge with AC adapter and record “I believe” )

My podcast can go up to 3 hours. I use the Atem mini iso. Well I would love to shoot my podcast in 4K but I don’t think I have the resources yet, still am thinking for future.

And I don’t know what lens will be good but in my head for Sony (aps C) Tamron 17-70 Sigma 35mm art lens Sony50 mm

Please recommend lens combos and what do you think will be the best ?

Sony 6700/fx30 users please let me know how long can you camera record with a usb C charger/ Ac adapter.

I’m interested in starting a podcast and have really liked the video podcasts where people sit together and chat (like Roommates Show from Jalen Brunson, Paul George etc).

Obviously they have more money and equipment and I notice they do have multiple cameras zooming in the host and guests etc.

Is that from multiple cameras or from just one camera and cropped out ?

I was thinking of just starting out with an iPhone on a tripod with a wide shot that would include me and another person/guests.

Would it be too visually boring if I just kept it recording the whole time as one shot without any closeups like how these podcasts do it?

Or would that be acceptable?

It seems like a lot less work and just hit record but I’m concerned it would look visually boring if it doesn’t jump from each person speaking.

r/cinematography on Reddit: Best camera choice for multi-cam podcasting setup/rental space? Should I double down on BMPCC4K or go Sony?
August 6, 2024 -

I'm starting a podcast, and I'm designing a dedicated space where I'll record it, and other rooms I'll rent out to others as well. I plan on having a 3 camera set up, and I currently have a Canon 80d which I plan on selling, and a BMPCC4K. I'm not sure if it matters since I'll be stationary, but I likely won't have someone to manually adjust focus during recording. I'm willing to double down with the BMs but U wanna make sure it's w it, as they come needing a lot of pieces that aren't included. I will have thorough lighting, so that's not a concern. I had my eyes on the Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8, and was thinking I would use it for the main camera, and use Canon kit lenses on the other two for closeups. If you have a camera recommendation for me, please feel free to let me know of any recommendations for lenses as well. I will need one for a wide angle and two for closeups. Should I:

A. Buy two more BMPCC4Ks or one BMPCC6K, B. Sell the BMPCC4K, buy 3 BMPCC6Ks, C. Sell the BMPCC4K, buy 3 of ______ camera? I'm hoping to spend under $5k on camera bodies.

Please feel free to critique all of this if you have relevant knowledge, as I have some previous camera knowledge but haven't been paying much attention to that space in recent years and am early in this process. Thank you all in advance 🙏

Does anyone have recommendations for affordable webcams to look good while recording remotely with guests? We obviously want to put most of out money in the sound quality, but what do you invest in to look more professional DURING a session?

For context, I use Squadcast so my guest and I can see each other. But we don't actually record the video.

You’ve all helped me work through the best software options for adding video to my podcast and now I need to think about the hardware.

I’d need at least two cameras to get the guests and hosts but the money is tight. Background: the episodes run between 1 and 2 hours long and the “studio” space is quite small.

I was thinking about some used Go Pros but not sure. Looking forward to your advice.

June 9, 2022 - No BM camera has continuous AF, so you can’t just hit record and walk into frame have yourself focused. Honestly a Sony camera makes sense and I’d say two a6400s or an 6700- anything beyond that is just spending money. Buying for an example two FX3s for stationary podcast headshots is like ...

My podcast episodes are an hour and a half long. We have struggled to find the right camera for us. Need a camera that won't stop recording or overheat after 30 minutes. Also what lens would fit best? Also if you have a monitor you recommend let me know.

Working with a $5k budget

Thanks!

r/SonyAlpha on Reddit: Cameras for long-form interview style podcast
October 23, 2024 -

I’m looking to start a podcast and would appreciate some advice on camera selection. We need to be able to record for long periods continuously. I know the general sentiment on these subs is not to record long-form content. However, due to our backgrounds, we have relationships with dozens of potential guests that you’d see on other successful long-form interview-style podcasts. Some of whom haven’t done podcasts before but would talk to us.

I’ve seen many using the FX30, but it’s a little out of our price range starting out. We want to start with two cameras, which doesn’t help. There seem to be some good overheating mitigation methods out there to get around that issue with the less capable cameras.

I’m seeing many with shorter content use the ZV-E10 and they are the cameras we’re currently considering. I’m aware they overheat, particularly if you choose to film in 4K (already tracking the pros and cons of that). Changing the camera’s internal heat setting, using a dummy battery, leaving the battery compartment door open, operating it with the screen flipped out, and adding something like the Ulanzi cooling fan, from what I’ve seen, solves the issue and allows you to record indefinitely. Particularly in air-conditioned spaces like we’ll be in. Even if all that didn’t work, I could pick up a Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini Pro ISO video controller, which shifts the memory component out of the camera and would provide more than adequate overheating mitigation. I may pick that up anyway just to make handling the files easier.

Are there any cameras in a similar price range to the ZV-E10 that would be better suited for our use? ZV-E10 II, A6100, A6400, etc. If I were to shoot in 4K and not get the video controller what would be the easiest way to get the files to a computer? My assumption would be via a USB 3.2 cable. If I get the Blackmagic ATEM Mini Pro ISO, do I need SD cards for the cameras? (gonna go with a no on this one).

I appreciate everyone’s time 🙏.
