I've combed through a ton of posts but wanted to see if I was missing anything before I committed: I am also interested to know (if anyone has experience) on which refills were the most accessible (easiest to buy) / the most affordable (Canada) / and has the thinnest paper.
The four I had in mind was the Canon Ivy / Canon CP1500 / Canon Selphy Square QX10 / and the Polaroid Hi-Print.
CANON IVY:
-Pros: compact / I think it has sticky paper available?
-Cons: almost crossed it right off the bat because I saw that it used Zink tech.
Once upon a time (back in 2016), I had the Polaroid Zip because the Instax films were getting a bit too expensive. Although I'm not too picky with image quality, I remember editing photos before printing any of them because the colours were just hideous. I had no issues with fading though. Not sure if zink tech quality has gone up since then but if not, I'm not going back to it.
CANON CP 1500:
-Pros: seems to be universally loved as the printer with the best image quality
-Cons: not as portable / no good sticker paper options
I was almost 100% going to go for the 1500 until I saw the sticker paper options--I'd ideally want a printer where I can collage my images and print them out so I can cut them myself into the desired sizes. However the 1500 had a tiny sticker version that looked like the size of postage stamps. Between the weird sticker paper options and having to buy a separate tray for them, I'm likely going to skip on this one or purchase it with the intention of holding them with washi tape.
CANON SELPHY SQUARE QX10:
-Pros: compact / sticky paper
-Cons: sticky paper may not be sticky enough
This is the one I'm leaning towards the most at the moment as there doesn't seem to be a con. Not sure how the photo quality is but I'm assuming closer to the CP1500 than the Ivy?
POLAROID HI PRINT:
I don't have a lot of info on this one but it seems to be popular.
I travel a lot so I'm hoping to find something that at least has a decent photo/colour quality, because I LOVE taking photographs and in general, I like to associate memories with a still moment in time. The Zip was fun with the zink paper, but it always looked off no matter how much editing I did (human skin looked especially bad, though again this was in 2016). One brand I do dislike though (unless they have something spectacular) is HP.
I am very open to suggestions or tips though! Thank you <3
Edit: for archival purposes
I've decided to go with the Canon Selphy CP1500 (will glue/washi down the photos) as it made the most sense economically. Shame there's no good sticky paper for it but for the price of the paper + colour quality, it was my best option. Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences!
