Best CPU For Video Editing In 2026 [Benchmarks Included] - Tech4Gamers
January 28, 2026 - Video editing at 4K or 8K is no joke and requires some serious horsepower to manage the workload. In such a situation, the Ryzen 9 9950X seems like the best choice as it packs 16 cores and 32 threads and can boost to a whopping 5.7 GHz.

r/buildapc on Reddit: What CPU for strong 4k-8k cpu encoding performance?
August 15, 2025 -

I have an AI application that uses the GPU for the AI portion and uses the cpu for video encoding. This means the cpu strictly handles all video encoding 4k-8k video.

My 7800x3d currently bottlenecks my 4090 at 7k and 8k. What CPU would be best for this kind of workload? Ffmpeg 4k-8k cpu encoding specifically.

CPU selection in 2025 for CAD and Video Editing
You don't want the 9800X3D, it's only for gaming, significantly lower performance in the productivity apps, because the extra cache doesn't help in any of those, and it runs slower. Here's Puget's (a professional workstation builder) benchmarks https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/amd-ryzen-7-9800x3d-content-creation-review/#Video_Editing_Motion_Graphics_DaVinci_Resolve_Studio Now, their benchmarks show the 9950X with the best scores in photo and video editing, and it is very good, HOWEVER... The Core Ultra 285K can run MUCH, MUCH faster RAM, which makes a HUGE difference in things like video editing, which are very RAM bandwidth intensive. The 9950X might be slightly better in most things when equal RAM is used, but a Core Ultra 285K running RAM twice as fast will be MUCH better when editing a 40GB video file, for instance. So, IMO, your best option is a Core Ultra 9 285K with very fast RAM, and of course a decent Nvidia GPU. More on reddit.com

What is the best Intel cpu for 4k gaming and video editing?
14900K is the best. A 14700K or even a 13600K might be enough depending on your expectations, hobbyist level video editing is miles away from professional work in terms of performance demand. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/jwFxJy - Here is a sample build, just toss in your choice of GPU. Which CPU should I buy as a video editor?
Buy the best Intel CPU you can find in your budget. If you don't want to deal with 13th/14th gen and instead want AMD, then 7900X or 7950X would be the logical choices. If your workloads benefits from V-cache, then consider the X3D versions as well. More on reddit.com

How many cores do I need for 4K video editing?

For smooth 4K video editing, you need at least 12 cores. However, 16 cores provide significantly better performance, reducing render times by 35-40% compared to 8-core processors. Professional editors working with complex effects should consider 20+ cores for optimal performance.

r/premiere on Reddit: Best CPU for Video Editing?
July 23, 2024 -

I was planning to buy a 14700k cpu for video editing because it has got igpu and quick sync. That would help me in complex video editing in premiere pro (I would mostly edit mogrt files). But since the last few months I have noticed that there are several issues regarding the stability of 13/14th gen CPU's. In that situation what should I do ?

  1. Should I buy a i5 12/13/14th gen CPU or any other Intel CPU that is good for video editing and is also stable?

  2. Should I buy a AMD CPU that would help me in complex video editing and is also stable? ( Please mention the AMD CPU name too )

  3. Should I buy a Intel ARC CPU that is good for video editing and is also stable?

Please answer this question keeping in mind that I would do complex video editing in premiere pro. I would mostly edit motion graphics template files (mogrt) in premiere pro and I would do no gaming.
