Any point to having a propane "wood" stove?
I’ve got a wood burner at home, and love it. My lake condo has a big stone fireplace and mantle with a natural gas log. I don’t love it, but it is pretty awesome and really kicks out the heat. More on reddit.com
I need a suggestion for a large direct vent liquid propane fireplace as the centerpiece of a new construction mountain home.
Sounds like maybe a nice linear unit would suit you well, they definitely make a statement. I'm a Kozy Heat dealer so ill show you some products i have experience with. Kozy Heat is the main brand of gas fireplace I sell. They do make some larger ones like the Bellingham 52 . Thats kind of a cross between a linear and a traditional gas fireplace. The Callaway series is a true linear unit, more of a modern look. They come in 40, 50 and 72" wide units. Take a look at Kozy Heat direct vent gas fireplaces, they have more options if you want a more traditional looking fireplace although they wont be as large as the linear units or the bellingham. I linked those because you said the room is pretty large. They work well and don't require much maintenance. I've been installing Kozy Heat for a long time now and their products and quality are definitely top of the line. More on reddit.com

December 18, 2016 - I will never use oil again for several reasons its super dirty, efficiency is in the low 80's, constant repairs/maintenance like filters and who wants the exhaust flue. Gas is 99% + efficient and that overrides the BTU that oil provides. I will have radiant floor heat propane fired and hope to use a gas stove to replace the wood stove I have always had as auxiliary heat.

I prefer a woodstove, but am recovering from an injury and can’t mess with the firewood this year. I’m considering a real propane unit (complete with vent pipe), but have concerns over running gas for 4-5 months.
So for those of you who have tried propane as a main heat source, what are your thoughts?

I've got a propane fireplace as a secondary heat source/nice to have item. During last winter we had a three day power outage. Air temps of -13 and high winds....I kept the fireplace running continuously throughout the power outage and managed to keep both my main floor and upstairs at 20 degrees. (Approximately 3000 sq ft) It was also quite cozy in the nighttime with the fireplace doubling as a low light source. For full time winter heat source, I'd recommend at least a couple of 400lb bottles of propane. Edit. I'm also in a home with 6 inches of closed cell foam insulation

Wood Stove VS Propane Heater
January 6, 2021 - Wood stoves have been used for centuries and are safer comparing to gas heaters. All by-products of burning are carried out through the stove’s pipe. Smoke is hot and rises, so you don’t need to worry about it staying in the tent. Wood stoves can be used continuously, even throughout the night. You simply add wood as necessary. ... I install Pacific Energy and Vermont Castings stoves. Pacific energy is a good brand, but I haven't seen that gas stove. They don't really make their own and kind of sub out their gas products IIRC, so I don't know that I'd recommend them for gas. Not familiar with Regency, but I can vouch for the Stardance. I would only recommend getting it in millivolt, though. Not a fan of the intellifire remote system that comes with the IPI version.
