I am not at all the keyboard enthusiast, I love to browse and watch content on custom builds, but I use a 60% for gaming and all my main typing needs are covered by my laptop... why are more people not using pudding key caps? The diffusion from them is absolutely wonderful.. is there something inherently flawed? Are they considered cringe? Whats the deal here?

It's kind of like the deeper into the rabbit hole you go, the less you care about RGB. That's been my experience anyway. When I first got into custom keyboards I wanted the light show and shine through and loved my pudding caps. And don't get me wrong, they are stunning. But as I moved into enthusiast-level boards, one of the reasons I lost interest in pudding/shinethrough caps is because most of these boards have south-facing leds. And because of that, they don't work very well with shinethrough caps, and with pudding caps, you end up with that bright led shining a little too directly into your eyes as it faces you. It's also kind of a one-note aesthetic and little too "gamer" for some folks tastes. I game on pc constantly, but I absolutely detest the "gamer" aesthetic haha. These days I tend toward high quality caps with clear legends and good contrast so I can see it in my windowless home office. That being said, even with non-shinethrough caps. I do enjoy the nice glow of the backlighting beneath and surrounding the keys. But it's a lot more subtle than a pudding or shinethrough.

I have some baords with pudding caps, some just shine through caps and others with no RGB shine at all. RGB can be distracting for some. MY wife is not a fan of them. She doesnt mind full RGB boards, but will still run no-shine caps as she prefers SA profile keycaps (not the standard Cherry profile) and finding pudding caps with something other than Cherry profile is a rare treat. To each their own, but this is a hobby that you get to choose exactly (or nearly exactly) what you want and get it.

Hi I've heard from my friends that pudding keycaps (ones from HyperX, Glorious, etc) are bad because they're all from the same Chinese manufacturer. I've been looking at these keycaps https://mechkeyboardstore.com/collections/keycaps/products/white-pudding-translucent-pbt-keycaps and I don't know if they're good or not (good material, durability). Any help will be awesome

Pudding caps are pudding caps, it's true... not like that says anything about quality. The only usual complaint I hear is that they're not as thick as people would like. Just average. But they are really cheap, and backlit caps are usually fairly thin, so that's kinda to be expected. So they may not be high end, but lots of people like them. Also that site has absolutely ripoff prices on everything. Looks like they're only a month old and came out swinging with a heavy instagram/facebook marketing presence, that would make me wary even if their prices weren't total shit. Just grab the cheapest option on Amazon or AliExpress.

In my opinion, i love them for mechanical keyboards because of the rgb shine. Like if a keyboard has EPIC GAMER RGB!! then the keyboard would look actually really pretty. (Yes i am replying to a comment 5 years later. xd)

Hi gang, new to the mech world, getting my first modular keyboard the womier k87. Been using razer my whole life. Just wanna find out, are there any quality/feel difference between a regular PBT keycap vs a ducky pudding pbt keycap? Do either one feels nicer to type on or they both feel the same?

Only the top layer of a pudding cap is PBT, the translucent section is ABS which will result in a flimsier and lighter feeling cap with much less of a thocky heavy sound and keystroke than a thick full PBT cap.

The tops will feel similar but they key caps as a whole will feel slightly flimsier and switch presses at speed will probably sound louder.
