I know there are tons of free QR code generators out there, but many either expire quickly or push premium upgrades.

I recently tried ME-QR and it worked fine — permanent links, no watermark, no login required. Again, this isn't an ad — just wondering what others here are using? Interested in hearing some personal favorites that have worked well long-term.

I'm trying to generate a QR code to connect people to wi-fi. Every purportedly free generator I've tried so far pulls some sneaky trick. Either it won't let me download the code without signing up or it tries to direct me to paid services, or something else like that.

Can folks recommend some truly free sites?

r/it on Reddit: What’s the best QR code generator that’s reliable, customizable, and doesn’t break later?
February 16, 2026 -

I’m putting together QR codes for a few things and I’m realizing there’s a huge difference between the free ones and the ones that don’t break later.

What I need is pretty simple but I want it done right. Static and dynamic options would be nice, custom colors and maybe a logo in the middle, and ideally something that lets me download a clean SVG so it doesn’t look blurry on print. Bonus points if it can do bulk codes or at least save my projects so I’m not remaking the same stuff over and over.

I’ve tried a couple random sites and half of them either slap a watermark on it, limit downloads, or lock dynamic behind a subscription that feels overpriced. Also I’m a little paranoid about services that make your code stop working if you cancel.

If you’ve used one that’s actually solid for real use cases like menus, flyers, product labels, business cards, what did you go with and why? Any that you’d avoid?

Edit: Thanks for all the suggestions, really helpful. I tested a few and the main thing I realized is that static codes are the safest if you don’t want anything breaking later. I’ve been using QRCodeGecko recently and it checks most of the boxes for me, clean exports, customization, and no weird surprises after generating the code.

r/smallbusiness on Reddit: What’s a good free QR code generator that doesn’t lock the code later?
May 26, 2026 -

I’m looking for a free QR code generator for a simple project, but I keep seeing people mention that some tools are only “free” at first and then limit scans, expire the code, or push you into paying after you already made it.

I don’t need anything too advanced. Mostly just want to create a clean QR code that works long term and can be printed without issues. Basic customization would be nice, but the main thing is that the QR code keeps working and doesn’t randomly stop after a trial period.

For anyone who has used one recently, what should I look for? Is a static QR code enough, or is there any reason to use a dynamic one if I don’t need tracking or editing later?

Anymore, I just use Affinity (free design tool) to make QR codes. It has a built-in QR function that just makes a QR for whatever URL you want. You can design it all yourself too with colors, rounded edges, etc, but it’s not exactly “plug and play” because affinity is a true design tool and takes some learning. But ultimately it is a great long-term solution. I personally recommend having your website guy manage this. I do this for my clients and it saves a lot of headaches. I even build out a nice QR tracker in the site (so we aren’t reliant on third party tools, but we still don’t have to re-print things if we decide we want the QR to go somewhere else). Other than that, I have used this one in the past: https://www.qrcode-monkey.com/ Last time I used it, it didn’t stick an intermediary URL to shut off later. However you should double check yourself by scanning the QR code it gives you and ensuring the URL preview is YOUR website, and not some other website that redirects. Again, you check the preview URL, don’t actually click on it (since even if they do have a middle-man URL, it will redirect to your site). I hate that these QR websites do this. Super scummy.
