I’ve become very picky about bedding in the last few years but I’m also a very hot sleeper. I’m looking for a lightweight quilt or blanket that is breathable and lightweight but good quality too. I have an organic cotton duvet cover I’m using right now (with no insert) that is basically the thickness of two sheets put together and while it’s lightweight it’s almost not enough blanket but it also looks a mess on the bed. I think the duvet + cover is a bit too much from what I’ve tried in the past. I was looking at a linen quilt but I’ve never used linen and I’m a bit hesitant about it being scratchy. Looking for advice on if linen is the way to go, is it going to be too rough? General brands to check out? Or should I go bamboo or eucalyptus?

looking for a quilt to use in the summer, I tend to run hot during sleep so summer makes it even worse.
what are brands n materials i should look into for a quilt?
Quilts for hot sleepers
Hi. I am a hot sleeper and need to replace my beds blanket because it doesn't keep me cool anymore (its bamboo...weird). I am looking for a quality all cotton, including fill, quilt that will help this hot sleeping amputee get a decent night sleep. The ones I am looking at are
Redland Cotton - limited color to just 3, not a complete deal breaker but I do like color (not vibrant)
Garnet Hill Dream Quilt - Not organic cotton but OEKO-TEX
Riley - Textured or 4 layer coverlet: Its a coverlet but that do say that it will be heavy enough in the case I do get a bit chilly but not cold enough for layers
Also considered Boll And Branch Signature quilts and Quince European linen quilt.
I know everyone has personal preferences and some stick to the same brand and are kinda bias, which is okay, but do to cost for quilts with absolutely no synthetic material I am hoping to get some honest experiences with these or even broaden my list of others to look at. Because the Company Store has a lot of mixed reviews and not consistent is good or bad I am going to stay away from them.
I moved into my apartment last year. I’ve had a duvet for probably 5+ years and like it. However, last winter, I was impossibly warm.
My current spot uses more old school heating (we have a boiler). My apartment gets so hot. I’d find myself waking up and having to crack open my window. I’d eventually fall asleep and then wake up freezing thanks to being in the northern part of the US.
It’s already getting quite cold, so I’m seriously debating to get a thicker quilt or bring out the duvet. Does anyone have recommendations for different duvet inserts/covers that are more breathable? Pros/cons are helpful too. Thanks :)
I've been looking into those cooling comforters but it seems they are overpriced and kind of more marketing than anything. So I think that maybe a full cotton quilt will be a better idea but I wanna hear you guys first.
I live in dominican republic so weather over here is humid or hot like 90% of the time.
Also something that seems off to me, how is a cooling comforter supposed to be cool if the filling is polyester? A fabric that traps heat and moisture, makes no sense for me.
What do you all prefer to use as a blanket in the summer? I made the transition from a bag to a quilt recently, but I still get WAY to hot in the summer. I like having a blanket of some sort when I sleep, so I want to have something, but even with just a Z Lite pad, I get too hot. I'm currently using the budget quilt from "Double Black Diamond" (the knock off, Costco down quilt that people were buzzing about that's apparently twice as good as Black Diamond) and I need to make a switch.
Not sure if this is the place to ask but... I’ve got some holiday cash and I’d love to splurge on a good blanket for my bed. Problem is, I am a nuclear hot sleeper. Like a human furnace. I live in Canada and even when it’s -20 out, I turn the heat off and put a fan on. I’m currently using a “breathable” bamboo duvet, and I’m still sweating bullets most nights.
I need at least some weight on me to sleep comfortably. Sleeping with just a top sheet sucks.
I’d also love to move away from using a duvet cover... unless I’m doing it wrong, it’s just a hassle. I have clips in the corners to keep it in place, but it still sags in the middle. And putting it on after washing is annoying. Woe is me.
I’ve considered a quilt, but I know even less about quilts than I do comforters.
My budget is about $200-300 CAD for a queen or king size. Any suggestions?
Maybe a cotton blanket would work? L.L.Bean has this one and I purchased it specifically to try out to sleep better in the Texas heat. I haven't tried it in the heat of summer yet, but it washed up nicely and seems to have a nice weight to it. If the duvet isn't working for you, ditch it.
We use a light blanket, a bit like this, most of the year and only go for a heavier blanket or doona in winter.
I sleep hot. Like needs to turn my thermostat down to 68 and put the fan on at night with a foot stick out hot. I’ve been using a 20 degree synthetic mummy bag and had to nearly use my bag as a quilt when it was 27 degrees this last winter on the Cumberland Plateau and I was only wearing shorts and a t-shirt.
So I’m looking at quilts and trying to safely shave off as much weight as possible. Planning an AT NOBO thru to start late Feb and weather history says it can get down to mid-teens and mid twenties in north GA and the Smokys around the time I’ll be there.
So my thought is that if I sleep with midweight base layers, a hooded puffy with beanie and wool socks on top of my Nemo tensor (4.7 r value) that will be on top of a Gossamer Gear Thin Light pad(honestly more for pad protection than added warmth with a estimated .5 r value) a 30 degree quilt will be plenty warm enough for the few really cold nights. I’m thinking I’ll be able to use the quilt for a longer period of time on trail before it gets too hot at night due to it being a warmer quilt.
Looking at: Katabatic Gear Flex 30 quilt OR Enlightened Equipment Revelation 20 quilt with 10D Fabric and 850FP with draft collar
Any advice from hot sleepers appreciated! Whatever I go with I will obviously safely do a test run this winter before taking it on an unfamiliar trail, but I’m looking for the most educated buy I can so hopefully I don’t have to resell it.
Cheers!
Hey fellow furnaces of the night! I'm on the hunt for a legit cooling comforter that won't turn into a sweat trap by 2 AM. I've narrowed it down to two options but could use real-user experiences before pulling the trigger.
Option 1: Bedsure Cooling Comforter
Claims to use "3D airflow technology"
Bamboo-derived rayon cover
Medium weight (good for year-round use?)
Option 2: Evercool Comforter
Specifically markets to menopausal women (I'm not one, but if it works...)
"Phase-change" cooling fibers
Lightweight design
About me:
Sleep HOT (like, wake-up-drenched hot)
Mostly a side sleeper
Prefer something that doesn't feel plasticky
Need machine-washable
I've searched the sub and haven't found exactly what I'm looking for.
I'm looking for:
quilt or duvet that is lightweight for summer
still feels cozy. I've tried a waffle blanket and didn't like it
machine washable
ships to Canada
open to various price points especially if it's made to last
I've been eyeing the Silk & Snow muslin quilt but they have very mixed reviews on this sub.
What do you have for me reddit??
In recent years I have become a hotttt sleeper to the extent that some nights I literally get up and change pajamas in the middle of the night! I have a purple mattress with a purple mattress protector (re: night sweats). I use Threshold 100% cotton sheets from Target, which I have been generally happy with.
I am in need of a new comforter / duvet / quilt of some kind, ideally under about $160. I nearly die with any kind of polyester bedding, so I believe I am going to need 100% cotton for both shell & fill (I am not familiar with all the fabric names out there). I would love to find something cute / trendy, not just a plain solid color. But at this point I’m so exhausted by my endless internet searching / constant sponsored posts that I just want to narrow it down to a couple of actual top contenders.
For reference, I live in Houston where there are maybe 2 nights a year that we turn the heat on. The other 363 nights I have the a/c cranked and the ceiling fan on high. And I still sweat most nights. 🙃
I am an extremely hot sleeper. Spending any time wrapped in a blanket on a mattress makes me sweat. What are some products and brands you absolutely swear by? Would love to sleep through the night without waking up and being overheated
Edit: I sleep in an extremely cold room. Especially in the summer. My AC is cranked. In the winter my heat is low and my windows are open. I just sleep so hot.
Chili pad.
Biggest thing for me was just ditching the comforter unless it's genuinely cold out and there's no heating. I sleep with a sheet or a very light, thin blanket, or sometimes no blankets in the summer.
And my number one rule is no layers. If I do have a comforter, I don't have a sheet. If I have a sheet, I don't have a blanket. Layers trap air between them and really up the heat. Same deal for pajamas.
Also avoid microfiber like the plague.

Hey everyone.
I recently bought a new duvet cover (cotton percale) and the lightest down comforter I could find. Despite keeping the room at 64 degrees at night, I'm still hot.
What material would you guys recommend for a hot sleeper like me? Cotton insert? Something else?
If you have any specific products in mind, all I want is a king-sized insert that has loops on the corners so I can tie the insert to the drawstrings that are built into the duvet cover.
Thanks you!
UPDATE: Thank you to everyone who responded. I appreciate all the good suggestions. I ended up buying the Your Moon wool blanket. Checked all the boxes of what I was looking for: All natural materials, corner loops, lightweight will still having some heft, and very reasonably priced.
Used it last night for the for the first time and couldn't have been happoer. It was perfect.
Definitely recommend it for other hot sleepers.
Trying to decide between a down comforter and linen duvet or linen quilt with bamboo fill. I’ve moved from a cold climate to a moderate and my current bedding is just too much.
I'd go with the linen quilt with the bamboo fill. Down just doesn't really work well for summer temps, imo, and will end up being hot for most that use it unless they crank up their AC in the 60s all summer long.
I have a really lightweight down comforter I use in the summer. What I like about it is because it’s so light. It doesn’t sit on me, so I don’t feel like I’m as hot as I am if I use a quilt or a regular blanket.
My partner and I run very hot at night and can’t seem to find the right comforter. We live in a pretty warm area year round and don’t have A/C or a heater. Our biggest problem is we want something light and fluffy thats soft on your skin, and gives you that ‘hotel cloud comforter’ type feeling, but can also keep us cool in the summers and warmer in the winters. It seems like a lot of the temperature regulating ones are thinner and not always as cozy as you want them to be? I’ve heard of trying a wool one as those seem to be the best for temp, but I’m worried we would get too hot especially in the summers. Appreciate any and all suggestions!!
Again, just to be clear; I'm planning on trying to fix this from the mattress/sheets/pillow up as you guys may recall from my last post, but just in case..
What's a good not too expensive comforter or blanket for someone having night sweats or is just a hot sleeper? Like to keep it to 100 bucks or less, and I live in GA/east of Atlanta. I'll hate to see that walmart special I got for the dorm go but if I have to fix that before I get my sleep study to find out if I got sleep apnea, I have to. (Seriously, it's had a good run. 15+ years without the stuffing clumping up or it ripping up is a good run!)
Oh and no dry clean only. It has to be washable, even if I have to go to a laundromat for a oversized washer. Seriously, dry cleaning is a expense I'd rather not pay.
Have a cotton blanket right now but was having trouble last night (Well, new year's so I guess can't say much?) but hoping that relief money gets here soon so I can start my plans and quit having trouble. I am kinda planning on layering if necessary to get that Goldilocks feel that I really really want here.
A waffle-weave all-cotton blanket, sometimes called a hospital-style blanket. These are thin, not puffy or fuzzy like we're used to blankets being these days, but they soft, warm in winter, cool in the summer, and allow sweat to evaporate easily, if you should get overheated at all.
You can get them for between $30 and $75 US, and as a fellow hot sleeper, I keep one on my bed all year in NYC. Even here in the midwinter, I prefer to use two of them and a sheet over a traditional comforter or blanket. The last one, I think I just got from amazon, made of Egyptian cotton.
Good-quality cotton lasts ages and only gets softer with time. As a high-use item, it does eventually wear out, but between the ones that my mother had and my own, you can expect a good 20-30 years of use.
I’m curious to this as well. I’m freezing when I go to sleep but often wake up with night sweats.
