Best PS4 racing game to play with a controller?
You can't go wrong with arcade games. They're simple and fun. You just need to know what is your type of racing. The Crew 1/2 is pretty much "Forza Horizon, but with a big US map". Some people did found the controls to be a little "heavy", but I personally had absolutely no problems. Both TC1 and TC2 are great games, the difference is that TC1 is more focused about driving in that big US map, while TC2 is more about vehicles (and there's boats and planes, although not much attention for any other class that is not street racing...) Wreckfest is pure fun. Have you ever played Demoliton Derby? Destruction Derby? Test Drive Eve of Destruction? Combine all these games and you have Wreckfest! Great game, ALTHOUGH I do recommend getting Wreckfest for PC mainly because of the mods. NFS series - the NFS series has 4 titles on the last gen: Rivals, 2015, Payback and Heat. 2015, Payback and Heat are pretty much the same: open-world games with a good car list and customization. The problem for many of the fans is that the mechanic "brake-2-drift" is kinda mandatory in all 3 games. I personally don't like it, but it didn't affect my gameplay that much (although I still think this b2d mechanic belongs to games like Ridge Racer or Burnout). NFS 15 is still buggy to this day and Payback is way too short. If you want a street racing game, I'd say go for NFS Heat. Rivals is similar to the NFS Hot Pursuit 2010 made by Criterion. Again, some don't like it because of b2d mechanic and because it looks a bit "burnout-ish", but if I had to recommend one NFS, it would be Rivals. My opinion: NFS Rivals is the best NFS of the last gen. It's basically like the originals NFS, but open-world. And if you like Rivals, you might check the NFS HP10 Remaster. I actually think the NFSHP10 is better than Rivals, but you know... GRID is closed-track racing. Unfortunately I didn't had the chance to play this game, but from what I've heard, it's a good arcade game. It's pretty, the sound of the engines are nice, but it seems the game is too short. F1 games from Codemasters are pretty much the same. You can have a nice and relaxing session playing with assists or you can go full manual controls (but it still isn't a full sim). Not much different from the F1 games made by Cody back on PS3. They're simple and accessible to any kind of player. In fact, i don't think the recent F1 games are bad. I just don't like F1 anymore. If you like bikes, there's RIDE 1/2/3/4, MotoGP series and Monster Energy Motocross. I'm not a bike guy, but I did played MotoGP 19. Since I don't know most of this bike stuff, I think all these games are great! RIDE 4 is more "arcade-ish" akin to Gran Turismo, where the focus is more about the bikes than the races. MotoGP and MEM are official titles with career modes. WRC is the official rally game. Some prefer DiRT Rally, some prefer WRC. Which one is better I honestly don't know. There things in WRC that are pretty neat and you can't find them in DR. Likewise, there are things in DR that you can't find in WRC. My advice is to watch videos. WRC is kind hard, but still much more forgiving than DiRT Rally, specially with a controller. Talking about rally, there's 3 options for PS4: DiRT 4/5 and DiRT Rally 1/2. DiRT 4/5 are arcade games. D4 has rally, baja and rallycross. It's really good. There's a career mode, you can upgrade your team and cars and you can even pick some colors for your own team. My only gripe about D4 is that Codemasters used a system where there's no "fixed" route. It's like the whole track is made separately by tilesets. While in theory this would mean that every track you raced was unique, the reality is that you always have that feeling of "hum, i saw this exactly corner in the last race!". It'd be much, much better if they had "fixed", more realistic tracks. D5 is less about traditional rally and more arcadey. D5 IS IN PS+ THIS MONTH SO GO GET IT! DiRT Rally 1 and 2 are full simulators. I gonna be honest with you: can you play them with a DS4? YES. It's hard? VERY YES! But it's possible to have fun? ABSOLUTELY. I got my platinum in DR 2 playing only with a controller. It's hard, it's somewhat frustrating and you need to spent some time tweaking your car setup. It's very rewarding when you got a corner right. But yes, playing DR with an wheel is a better option. Speaking of simulators, I can literally copy-paste my answer for Project CARS and Assetto Corsa/AC Competizione. You can definitely play them with a controller, but you need a lot of time learning the game and you need many adjustments for you controller and setups. It's not easy and a bit time consuming, but they are both great games if you're looking to simulate a full race weekend. Driveclub! Driveclub isn't available anymore in the store, but if you find a copy, buy it! It's one of the best racing games available to ps4. It's a simple, pretty, fun and classic arcade game. If you fancy some truck racing, there's FIA European Truck Racing Championship (or just Truck Racing!). It's nothing super spetacular, but it is a good game. There's a mechanic where you have to spray water on your breaks to not let them overheat, I found that to be a nice touch. And it's an official game with official trucks, teams and tracks. And finally, there's GT Sport. The GT series is simcade: There's fuel and tyre wear, there's weight transfer, you gotta follow a proper racing line, BUT, all of this is toned down to make it user-friendly. In full sims like PCARS/AC you have brake temperature, oil pressure, trasmission wear... while in GT you only need to worry about your racing line, fuel and tyres. You can create setups in GT, of course, but even that is more simplified. Gran Turismo Sport is different from the original GT games. The focus of this game is competitive online racing. Since players are ranked accordingly to their skill level, the races are pretty much fair and fun! I might add that GTS has the best livery editor out of all games and it's also a wallpaper creator machine. You should definitely check the racing section in the PSN store. There's a lot of cheap good games there, like Burnout Remaster, NASCAR, TT Isle of Man, Hotshot Racing, Absolute Drift, Gravel, V-Rally 4... There's also these game with more "driving" than racing, like Snowrunner or Truck Driver. More on reddit.com

Answer (1 of 3): Best Street Racing games on PS4 are a matter of opinion really. March 30, 2025 -

I don't play video games much so this may be a dumb question. Me and my kid used to play a cheesy split screen racing game called Horizon Chase Turbo but it was pretty fun. Looking for another split screen racing game so we can race at the same time. I have a ps4 pro( i don't play enough to get the 5) it's been awhile since we played and i just retired and looking for something we can play every once in awhile. Thanks in advance to all that answer. I'll look into each game recommended.
