You’re smart to be wary of anything super “fancy” with tons of extras – more features usually = more stuff to break. A lot of people have better luck with simpler, no-frills models from the more reliable lines, even within the big brands. Fridge brands to buy vs. not buy- my summary based on a quick scan
Personally, I’ll never buy another Samsung product again (and I have a fridge, oven range, washer and dryer). Most recently my fridge has been a nightmare. I constantly have to manually defrost the ice maker (known recall) and now I’m having issues with the fridge compartment turning into a giant block of ice which hits the circulation fan and makes a sound comparable to a single engine Cessna. The range has had several parts replaced and the same goes for the dryer. Just for reference I’ve had all of these appliances since 2017. When it comes time to replace I’ll definitely look elsewhere. The only appliance I have that is not a Samsung is my dishwasher which is a Bosch and I’ll say it’s been flawless since 2015. I’ll definitely look at Bosch and maybe Whirlpool when my appliances reach their limit… More on reddit.com

Costco is running a 4th of July deal and I started looking at refrigerators (we don't totally need one, ours still works and came with the house when we bought it 2+ years ago. Ice maker is broken but we just live with it). Anyway.
So do I have this right?
Bad Juju, stay away: LG and Samsung (Linear compressor, extra bad)
Decent (based on prior experience) - Whirlpool, Kitchenaid, GE? (I have a Kenmore Elite, which is GE and my garage frige is a cheapo GE, not sure about newer models). How about Bosch? (I had Bosch dishwasher and gas cooktop, both decent, no frige though)
Not mentioning any premium brands like Subzero, Wolf, etc. which I figure should be pretty good given the price tag that goes along with them.
Also not going into budget/lower end brands.
Edit: the garage fridge is actually a Whirlpool. Cheap top bottom variety.

Just read an article about choosing refrigerators in a newsletter. The conclusion was that overall G.E. tends to offer the most reliable fridges right now. Standard top freezer models were recommended for any brand as being less problematic. Other recommendations included staying away from in-the-door ice maker dispensers and water dispensers as they are problematic. If an in-the-door ice maker is essential, make sure it's located in the freezer compartment. Some LG refrigerators have compressor issues but some don't. Apparently there is a repairman on YouTube that breaks down which LGs to avoid and which to choose. I have an LG and hate it because the compressor vibrates and makes too much noise. Some Hisense models are highly recommended and they are supposedly easy to repair and easy to find parts for the repair. Good luck.
