Hello! I recently made the idiotic mistake of leaving my laptop at the security check point in Bangkok. I am hoping to get it back but from what I hear the process can take many weeks.
In the mean time I am looking to get a budget setup for some work: solidworks, spreadsheets, etc. As well as some light gaming (I play Fortnite with some college buddies). I was thinking about getting a pc set up anyways but now I'm hoping to expedite the process while I am without a laptop.
Unfortunately I know just about nothing about pcs or the process of building them. From my research I thought that maybe my best bang for my buck/ easiest option would be to buy a refurbished tower and add a graphics card.

Do you guys think this is a good plan? What graphics card would you suggest? Any other suggestions you have would be appreciated!

I wouldn’t spend $228 on an optiplex that old but your general plan is decent. Plan on getting like a 3050 6GB at best unless you plan to put a new PSU in whatever PC you buy

Slightly more expensive but this one has a low end GPU and much better processor. It could use more ram and a larger SSD, but I’d say it’s a much better starting point.
