I have JBLs that fall out all the time. Same with apple airpods. Looking into over the ear options. For running, i am thinking that 'open ear' is safer, esp bc i am running in the city. What ear buds do people like?
I am training for my first marathon and have run two half's so far this year. Now that I'm running distances into the teen-miles and (soon to be) 20's, I'm discovering my current earbuds are causing more headache than they're worth when worn for that long.
I'm currently using the Bose QCII Ultra Buds, which historically have been fine but once I get past mile 8 the sweat overwhelms the touch pads on the side and causes them to go haywire, starting/stopping music and switching ANC modes. I have to stop running, dry them as much as I can on my wet clothes, and then repeat this every 2-3 miles thereafter.
I got the new Powerbeats Pro II's that just came out, but my ears are too small for their hooks and they moved around quite a bit and sounded like crap. I also tried the Soundcore X20, but again my ears were too small for them to sit well and they moved around quite a bit and had to keep readjusting them during runs.
I am considering trying an open ear design, like the Bose Open Ultra's or Soundcore's model, but I'm hesitant because of how much I sweat around my ears that they would stay in place.
But regardless, what do you all use to run with, how does it work for you, any complaints/would you recommend to a friend?
tl;dr - Looking for headphone suggestions for first marathon which is coming up soon, preferably without a touchpad. I am wondering what you all use to run with, and if you'd recommend them to a friend.

I’m looking to upgrade my earbuds specifically for running, but every pair I’ve tried either falls out, has weak sound, or dies before I finish my route.
There are so many options out there that I’m honestly overwhelmed. What earbuds have actually stayed in place and sounded good for you while running?
Looking for real experiences especially ones that hold up in sweat, stay secure in motion, and don’t cut out mid-run.
I've searched the sub and don't see anything recent on this topic, so I hope this post is okay.
I'm aware that the Shokz Openrun pro is the best pure running earphones but I need something that's a bit more all round. Details below.
Been using the Jabra elite active 75 for the last 3.5 years but the right side earbud no longer produces sound. These earbuds were generally awesome, except for massively amplified wind noise on hearthrough mode. I looked at the latest model (elite active 8) and while it looks great, I want to know what else is out there.
I travel a lot, so something that's comfortable on short flights with ANC is preferred. Especially if I can also use it for virtual meetings and calls. Small form factor case makes it convenient in laptop bag, rather than my full size headset.
My gym is super loud, so open profile or bone conduction headphones are a problem since I often can't hear my own music over gym noise
I'd like hearthrough/environment sounds so that I can hear cars when running on the roads, but without the massively amplified wind noise.
ETA: I don't have an iPhone
Dear users,
I am a frequent runner and ran for a while with the Jabra Élite active 7. I choose them because i prefer earbuds and because i thought they had the best ANC. Unfortunately they died on me, and I found out jabra stopt production. Hence it is difficult to find a pair.
So that is why I am searching for a new pair. With the following requirements:
inearbuds
best ANC
waterproof (due to sweat)
good battery life for long runs
I'm going to give you some advice when shopping and present you the top 7 best running headphones available on the market. I made this list in our personal preference and sorted it based on their prices, quality, durability, and reputation of the manufacturers.
Before looking at the list, remember these:
Firstly, avoid any that have a 'super-bass' gimmick or additional ports to allow air venting. I have found that at velocity, the ensuing wind passing over the vents causes too much interference/whistling/whoosing
So then you think, ah ha, sealed in-ear ear buds? These are the best solution I've been happy with. However, be careful in traffic and public places, because the more you seal out external sounds, the more dangerous it becomes. It's the balance of tuning out the world around you to focus on your exercise, versus staying in touch with your surroundings for safety's sake.
Make sure that whichever pair you choose stay in your ear if you start to sweat or move around a lot, that they don't fall out.
For the running earbuds, sometimes the super-sealed off ones aren't so great, because the thud of the foot-to-pavement translates through the earbuds.
Be cognizant of the cord/wire. Some manufacturers out there have replaced the TPU coatings with woven fabric/nylon. The cord brushing against clothes (in the case of running / motion activity) sometimes can translate interference up through ear buds. That's super annoying.
If you are a beginner then a song with beats similar to your cadence can help in maintaining a proper rythem in running. Interesting songs may kill boredom which may come if you are running on a monotonous circular route.
However, I ll caution you about few issues:
Hearing music by earphones on a busy road is a health hazard. You have risk of getting hit be the vehicles coming from behind. Those drivers would presume that you have heard the horn and would more to side, while, you will be oblivious of a fast approaching vehicle.
Risk of hearing loss is a real issue on prolonged headphone use, while running or otherwise.
If you are planning to be a serious runner and participate in races. Then you may have to learn to alter your candence in a controlled way. Now, if you play a song with a low tempo then it may naturally slow you down. There is a reason that none of the advance runners use headphone music. But you can find a lots of amateur runners doing so.

I'm looking for an all-in-one earphone solution, since I really want to be able to go on runs and train in them as well as have good sound quality and ANC. I has been using these very cheap wireless earphones, which you can't run with and want an upgrade too something which will stay in my ears without falling out. I have been looking at the beats fit pro because I have tried them on before and they haven't fallen out of my ears and I liked the fit overall because it has the small inner hook that works really well. However, they are quite old so I'm wondering if its still worth purchasing them, especially since many new earphones have come out.
Another one I've looked at is the new Google Pixel Buds Pro 2, which looks very good for quality, but I'm having doubts about whether they will stay in no matter what training I'm doing (running, sprinting, etc), and whether the wing that's attached is any good. If anyone has any other recommendations please mention them as well.
Hey guys! Looking for some really good earbuds for the gym. Here’s some specs I think are important to me, please recc whatever you think fits best (bonus for tried and tested) -Sweat proof! (i sweat a lot on my face especially, I can’t have them getting waterlogged lol) -Slip proof, basically they can’t fall out of my ear mid rep. I know over ear ones would be the best for these but those tend to feel suffocating while I’m weight training. -Slight noise cancelling. I just wanna mute some surrounding sound, not completely block it out for when I’m running (safety first while running outside!) A good booming bass to really get the blood pumping (some good pump songs would also be welcome hehe)
I’m looking for advice on a good set of earbuds to use for ultra running, ideally a good battery life, good sound quality, will stay in your ears while on rough trail, and are comfortable. Any and all advice and suggestions are appreciated!! Thank you!!!
Edit: Thank you all for the suggestions! The general consensus seems to be a version of the Shokz bone conduction headphones so I will have to get a set and try them out! Thank you all again for all the input👍
Hey, I've been looking for the best earbuds for running, sprinting and jogging for a while.
The earbuds I'm using keep falling out and I need earbuds for my small ears. Any recommendations are welcome as I can't run without music!
TIA!
Edit: thanks for your advice, ended up choosing these. They've been great so far!
I have been on the AirPod wave for a while but I feel that they crap out on me quickly and do not stay in my ears while working out. Wanted to see if anyone had an earbud they would recommend? Preferably not with the silicon tips but I am open to any options :)
Right, it is the new year, so I would like to know.
What earphones or headphones should I buy?
I do casual running on busy/noisy roads, as well as in the quiet countryside.
I also do races, particularly parkrun, so hearing callouts is useful.
My main concern is battery life, as my current airpods (they have been excellent, but are nearly 5 years old now) die within an hour, which is very frustrating. I would like earphones that could survive a full average-pace marathon (I do not achieve sub-2-hours (yet!)).

Best over-the-ear wireless earbuds for running? Looking for great sound quality…loud and bass. Also long battery life and sweat proof. I have had Beats and JBL and both started glitching and sound was not awesome.
What earphones do you recommend for running?
I don’t mind too much about the price, the most important part is that they don’t fall out, and have decent sound quality.
