Is it me, or have horror movies been largely unimpressive in recent years? There are a few solid ones that come to mind - Talk to Me, The Barbarian - but nothing that has truly kept me up at night.
I’m by no means a horror aficionado, so I would love to get some horror movie suggestions, all years and sub-genres are welcome! I’m not a huge fan of slasher films though (I just don’t find them scary) and lean more towards movies that are creepy/uneasy, psychological, and have a strong story.

I’m watching a horror movie with a couple of friends tonight and none of us get scared easily. I need a movie that you still remember to this day, if it’s the plot twist that blew your mind or scary scenes. I’m more interested in movies from 2010 and up, but it’s okay if it’s older.
Just for a bit of context: we did not like Longlegs, Smile, Bird Box and found these boring, not scary, despite the hype. Movies that did scare us: The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Hereditary, The Visit, Dabbe 1.
Although these didn’t scare us, we really loved Us, The Conjuring series, Get Out, Black Box, Fractured, Prisoners, Marrowbone, Terrifier.

Though, I find The Taking of Deborah Logan more impactful (not necessarily scarier than Jane Doe) because it's about mental health and that shit stuck with me. If you liked The Hills Have Eyes 1, Korean horror Bedevilled also has similar vibes but the build up to the killing spree is slower. Personally, I find Bedevilled a lot more intense and unrelenting in terms of how disturbing some scenes are. As for Hereditary, some of my friends said The Dark And The Wicked has similar vibes but I havent watched it so I can't tell for sure.
