That seems really high to me for a sectional, especially from ikea, but it’s been awhile since I’ve purchased one. Article and west elm have sectionals in similar price ranges Answer from suburbanroadblock on reddit.com

If you own an ikea sectional please tell me your experience. We are looking into getting a kivik. I don’t love the upholstery options, though.

I’ve spent MONTHS searching for a sectional—specifically “low toxic” and I’m exhausted haha we can’t afford 10 k for a fully latex/wood sectional right now and with little babies I don’t know if I want to spend $$$ on a couch that is going to be used and abused by toddlers and dogs for the foreseeable future.

Hi everyone. We recently bought a couch at IKEA that had multiple defects. We are returning it for a refund, and are considering exchanging it for a different IKEA couch. If you bought an IKEA sectional recently, which do you have and how do you like it? We would like something relatively high backed (nothing very low) and with nice cushions

r/furniture on Reddit: Looking at IKEA sectionals as an "interim" couch
January 15, 2024 -

3 years ago we bought a cheap ish sectional from The Brick (we're in Canada) and it has not held up. We find it uncomfortable and the upholstery is ripped. We were hoping it would last us until our kids are no longer toddlers but it's not looking that way and we're going to replace it.

We are planning the next couch to be an "interim" couch. Aka one to last us through the little kid years, stand up to a beating and be replaced in 5-7 years with a nicer couch. We also have a small dog who practically lives on the couch.

For these reasons, we are considering just getting an IKEA couch. They're readily available, the covers can be removed and washed, and most of them are modular (we will be moving soon as well). We are open to other stores but where we live there aren't a lot of showrooms to test out couches and we don't want to buy a couch online without trying it first.

Are there any particular Ikea sectionals that are better than the rest? We're hoping to keep costs under $3.5k.

February 20, 2021 - Guests actually preferred sleeping on it instead of our guest bedroom (partly because the guestroom has the door to the back and the dog likes to go out at 3AM). I found the deep seating great for napping and lounging, but awkward when you're entertaining guests. Wife decided she wanted a reclining sectional so we just sold it off to make space.

Just moved to a new apartment and can't decide which couch to buy. I'm looking for something you can sit for a long time and even nap for a few hours. (Not a sleepover couch just a napping one haha) I don't want to buy really expensive models like the Jättebo which is super pretty, because we rent our place but I want something that isn't flimsy and goes flat after a year. These are the options in my budget, we tried them in the showrooms but I'm interested about your options like which one is easy to move, clean but doesn't scream cheap play furniture 😸.

I’m thinking of buying a couch from IKEA but before I drop the money, bring it home and put it together I wanna know if it’s gonna last me a few years. At least 4 or 5. The one I’m looking at is the Freheten pull out sofa. TIA!

I’m trying to buy a new sectional but I’m overwhelmed by all the options. I’m looking for an L-shaped couch (2 seats → corner → 2 seats) + an ottoman, around 7–8 ft by 8–9 ft total. Prefer browns/tans, no greys.

Big thing: it needs to survive 4 cats and 2 dogs, so durable/pet-friendly fabric is a must.

Where should I actually be shopping? West Elm? Crate & Barrel? Article? Wayfair? Something else? Would love to hear what’s worth it and what’s not.

My husband and I are on the market for a new sectional and I have scanned through so many reviews and it seems that IKEA branded sectionals fit all of our big checklist items and have the best overall reviews. However, I will have to order offline and I won't be able to test first, as there is not a store near us. Unfortunately we live 4 hours from the closest store.

I am looking into the Härlanda sectional, designed to my specifications. I was also considering the Finnalla sectional as well.

I was wondering if I could get some feedback from someone who has ordered and owns either of these sectionals. It is giving me the option to select a delivery date so I would like to know how true to this date that it typical is and how you received the product. I am aware that we will have to assemble and that is not an issue.

We want comfortable, not too firm, not too soft, seat depth, durability (at least 3-5 years of not longer), pet friendly material, yet affordable. Our budget is around $3000.

Also, I am not interested in JoyBird, LoveSac, any of the Amazon similar brands, Wayfair, or Burrow.

TL;DR: Pros and Cons of Ikea Sectionals, specifically Härlanda or Finnalla.

Hi r/Vancouver,

I've been looking over craigslist for couches over the last 4 weeks. However, nothing came to the standard of cleanliness where I wouldn't rather just drop an extra $500 on the sectional. I just purchased my first home and will be keeping the furniture I buy for over 5 years and ideally want higher-quality pieces. My budget is currently around $500 to 1,500.

Has anyone tried Pallucci Furniture or Structube over Ikea quality? Ikea has a good return policy however, I know their wood is low quality and budget-friendly.

Where did you guys get your Sectional or Sofa? Is $1,500 reasonable for a higher quality piece?

So my partner and I just moved in together and have a nice spacious living room. In my previous place (a studio), I could only fit a used Karlstad loveseat. It's served me well but we need a larger couch.

I don't wanna gamble on a used sofa again for multiple reasons (I've been lucky so far to have avoided bed bugs and fleas) - but mostly because our entryway is VERY narrow. We've already had to give back a free used sofa because it wouldnt fit, and I feel like our easiest option is to get an ikea couch that's already disassembled and therefore can be brought into the apartment in pieces (and be moved out in pieces when we eventually move - hopefully not for a long time).

I have my eye on the KIVIK, HYLTARP, and SODERHAMN models - all in the 3-4 seate with chaise lounge configurations. Budget is $1400 pre tax. We are hoping for something that encourages lounging and hanging out, but being able to sit up and have some support too if needed.

What do folks think of these 3 models? Any other current models you'd recommend in that price range? We're going hopefully this weekend to pick one out.

Also - can you replace the feet on the SODERHAMN? It's a bit low for even me (and I'm short) but if I can replace the feet easily and we love it when we try it out then the fact that it sits low isn't a deal breaker to me.

My kids are starting to get older and the $1000 sectional sectional with sharpie all over it is starting to get uncomfortable. When you shop at price points higher than Ikea, Ashley Furniture, Living Spaces, Article etc, it seems to all blend into a mishmash of $5k-10k sectional sofas. I’ve seen a lot of poorly constructed stuff in this price range, even with the so called higher end sectional brands like West Elm, Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware and the likes - and frankly if that’s what I’m getting, I’ll just take the Ikea for 25% the price.

In your opinions (and any details to back it up) what is the best sectional sofa brands actually deliver on quality and last.

I’ve spent probably over a year’s worth of checking out sofa specs and reading articles about them, so I think I’m a bit qualified to help you out in this. The kind of comfort you want all comes down to internal build more than outer feel. Start by checking the frame. If the frame isn’t kiln-dried hardwood or aluminum at the least, I’d avoid it. Strictly avoid particle boards. They won’t hold up, no matter how thick the cushions are. Then, look for things liek 8-way hand-tied springs or sinuous spring systems. For foam density at around 1.9 lb/cu ft or higher, ideally with a down-wrap or memory layer on top if you want softness that doesn't collapse. You can always ask if the seat cushions are reversible and whether the covers zip off. That’ll help you wash them easily. The prettiest couch in the world means nothing if you can’t swap foam or flip a sagging cushion. Most people overlook that and regret it.

I ordered a custom sectional from Interior Define and could not be happier. I shopped for months online and locally and did so much research and second guessing before buying their Sloan sectional in a brushed knit fabric. It is the softest most beautiful couch, it stands up to pet hair, red wine literally beads up on the fabric and rolls off… I even tested their swatch with sharpie and rubbed it off with only water. The cushions are supportive and hold their shape.. it’s a long term couch for sure. think it’s was like $2800 total and it feels super high end to me, and I like nice things. Check them out! Edit to add: the only downside is the production time. It’s like 12-16 weeks. But truly worth the wait, if you can afford to.

I'm looking at different modular sofas that Ikea has and I see there are many different series. Can someone provide me a comparison of the different series? I saw kivik is popular.

On the site I see Finnala, Harlanda, Kivik, Jattebo, and Soderhamn. I'm primarily interested in comfort and durability with cost being less of a factor. Seems there are availability issues with sone series though. Thank you!

Hi everyone!

I'm in the market for a new couch and would love to hear your experiences and recommendations when it comes to IKEA's sofa lineup. I’m especially interested in models that hold up well over time — ones that don’t lose their shape or become uncomfortable after just a couple of years.

Comfort is really important to me, as the main use will be lounging and watching TV/movies. I want something that’s great for sitting, lying down, and just casually slouching. Bonus points if it has open space underneath for a robot vacuum to easily clean.

It’s also important to me that the couch looks good — clean lines, nice design, something that feels cozy but still aesthetically pleasing in the living room. I’d prefer something in a greenish or blueish tone to add some color and life to my otherwise all-white rental apartment.

I’ve seen some mixed reviews saying certain models feel great in the store but quickly become too firm or lose support. Has that been your experience too? Or do you have a couch that still feels great after years of use and also looks nice in your space?
Or should I look elsewhere?

Really appreciate any insights you can share!

I just moved into a new place and currently with out a sofa. I don’t have $1500 + to spend on a sofa, so Ikea seems to be the route we are going. My place is not too small but a sectional will not comfortably fit, so just looking for a standard sofa/loveseat. I was looking into reviews of the Uppland, Harlanda, Finnala, and Kivik, and honestly the reviews are so mixed I just can’t decide. Does anyone have any experience with any or all of these? My main concern is comfort and durability. I have 2 cats, so I’d need to be able to wash the covers or use a wet vac once in a while, though i don’t think that’s an issue with Ikea sofas ?? Thanks for any help!
