I'm getting ready to redo our master bath and am looking for advice on what to avoid, either by brand or design. This will be a simple install: no body jets or rain heads...just a standard shower head.

I am having a walk-in shower built for my partner who has had a stroke. My contractor is having me buy things ahead of time so when he starts the work he doesn't have to wait for things to keep the project moving. He said he prefers Kohler shower valves, but didn't suggest a particular one. When I search for Kohler shower valves, the first one that comes up costs between $40 and $50. The next one is over $400. Why such a huge price range? We don't need anything elaborate, just a solid reliable valve that will deliver hot and cold water. I assume brass is the way to go.
Any suggestions?
