I service all 3. My personal preference is the TR5. I'm not a fan of touch screens but the extra 2 yr warranty is a consideration. As far as the TC vs TR 5's. I like the Dc direct drive motor over a transmission. Less to fail. More on reddit.com

Speed Queen: which model to buy?
The tc5 has a transmission and has the split fins on the agitator... they are a little rougher on cloths due to this. The tr line has a different drive system and solid agitator. It is more gentle on cloths but still does a great job of cleaning. The ff is the front load, it's the only one in the speed queen line that you can put a king sized comforter in. The tr5, tc5 and ff have a 5 year parts and labor warranty, the tr7 has the 7 year. In my opinion they all do a good job and I wouldn't buy another brand. Sorce, appliance repair tech. March 27, 2023 - We bought our SQ about 10 years ago when our old washer crapped out. We asked the repair guy what brand he never has to fix. SPEED QUEEN. We got the most basic model (pretty sure it was the then-current commercial grade) Zero bells and whistles. (Which are the things that tend to break) It fits a king sized comforter. 10 years strong in a family of 4. No services calls on it yet. :) ... TC5. I really like it. I don’t notice that it’s any tougher on clothes than my last top loader ...

My friends recommended Speed Queen so 2 yrs ago I purchased the TR5 and I love it. Top load of course. It will be my last one as well I’m sure. Last month my 24 y.o. dryer gave up and I purchased a Maytag on July 4th sale for $548 at Home Depot as a dryer is a much less complicated appliance than a washer and we didn’t want to spend the much higher price for the Speed Queen.

This would be my first Speed Queen. I will stay with top loader with agitator. I’ve narrowed my selection to TR7, TR5 and TC5. I like TC5 because of no lid lock, but has no water selector level... If you have some time to share comments, opinions, I would appreciate that. Thank you.

As a Speed Queen servicer, if you you want one that works the TC5 is a great option yes it is a little harder on your clothes but is works fantastic. The TR5 is also a great option. I have only had a few (maybe 5 units) that have ever had a serious problem out of the hundreds that I have sold/ worked on. Be sure to clean the water mixing valve screens once a year if on city water and 2 times a year on well. This will save you some headache.
