r/HomeMilledFlour on Reddit: Home Grain Mill Recommendations
November 25, 2023 -
My wife has been baking bread almost daily for the past five years or so and wants a home grain mill for Christmas.
Probably a long shot, but does anyone on here have any thoughts or recommendations on what is the best out of the following home grain mills:
Mockmill
Nutrimill
Wondermill
Kokomo
I’m totally lost here! She mostly does sourdough stuff but sometimes ventures out to other, more yeasty stuff.

My wife has been baking bread almost daily for the past five years or so and wants a home grain mill for Christmas. It's pricey ($800 USD), but the Mockmill 200 Pro has a 12-year residential warranty: https://breadtopia.com/store/mockmill-professional-200-grain-mill/ More info: https://www.reddit.com/r/HomeMilledFlour/comments/1839rn3/comment/kaowlmd/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3 I've had mine for 3 years. I mostly do wheat flour, cornmeal, and rice flour with it. The mega-long warranty & improved internal hardware components will cover me for nearly the next decade of baking. My typical process is: Mill the flour (then either use it whole, sifted, or as a percentage with AP flour) Use the sourdough starter Use the overnight no-knead procedure Fresh bread every day for less than 10 minute's worth of effort to mill the flour, feed the sourdough starter, and create & bake the dough!

Mockmill 200 - done! Mockmills and KoMos are essentially identical, both designed by Wolfgang Mock. Pick the one that is the look and price you’re willing to pay, both will work fine.

Home flour mills: Impact vs. Stone mill - Souly Rested
May 1, 2025 - This process can heat up the grains a good bit, so check into if the impact-style mill you purchase has temperature controls built into their mechanisms, making sure your flour doesn’t overheat and loose nutrients while milling. For example, the Classic Nutrimill doesn’t allow extracted flour to be hotter than 118 degrees, which offers peace of mind that you’re getting the most nutritious flour possible. Some folks will talk about stone milling as if it’s the only way to get a quality wholegrain flour as the end result.

Best Grain Mill: Mockmill vs. Nutrimill - Farmhouse on Boone
March 31, 2022 - Nutrimill has a new mill out that is similar to the mock mill you have. It uses two stones to grind the grains. The mill is made of wood and you must put your own bowl under the spout to catch the flour. When I was looking for something, I was wanting something that would not be messy with flour particles in the air.

Best Budget Grain Mill
As mentioned, ceramic stone burrs do such a much better job than steel. I will be honest with you, however, and tell you that based off my research the Royal Lee or Komo probably are a little better, and if you are able to spring the money for one of them I would go with one of them (both are in stock now last I checked). ... If you need something in the middle price range, however I do recommend the NutriMill. An almost identical grain mill that also has long life corundum-ceramic burrs is the Mockmill 100 and 200 which I do recommend checking out as it has more reviews (both have 5 star reviews), however the Mockmill 100 doesn’t look nearly as speedy as the 200 or as the NutriMill Harvest...

Hey guys 👋🏻,
I’m looking for a stone based flour grinder and I came across Mockmill but it is very expensive and way out of my budget.
I looked at other cheaper options but they are electric based and would generate a lot of heat ultimately affecting my flour.
Does anyone have other cheaper options to suggest? Thanks in advance

Milling flour with a hand-crank mill is extremely slow and tedious. It takes so long, you can easily triple your effort for a single loaf of bread. I find the proposition completely untenable. Save up for the Mockmill.

I bought Mockmill 200 for $300 from Mockmill. They have a sorta secret refurbished list. Got to call them and ask. But a Mockmill 200 for $300 totally refurbished all brand new with same 6 year warranty is the best deal you'll find.
