Seeking advice on what bathroom floor tile material to choose. This is for a full bathroom, so the floor should get a lot of humidity from the shower.

Looking to replicate this look: https://i.pinimg.com/564x/1f/a6/47/1fa647f3ad975689757b0c137a96367a.jpg

Charcoal gray herringbone mosaic.

I've found some options in porcelain, ceramic, or basalt. What are the pros/cons of these materials for bathroom tile? I heard porcelain is more breakable, and that basalt is high-maintenance. Is that right?

How difficult is it to tile bathroom floor?
Laying tile is time consuming but not difficult. Click lock vinyl flooring is easier. 11k sounds very high for 1 bathroom floor. $1,100 is more reasonable. 11k would do a whole house. More on reddit.com

Marble Tile - Bathroom Floor - Maintenance?
Marble in the bathroom is a BAD idea - it's porous, so it stains easily. I went with a marble-look slab for my bathroom counter and have no complaints. More on reddit.com

Heated tile floor in bathroom - What's your experience?

I finished my simultaneous kitchen and bathroom remodel about six months ago and installed NuHeat heated floors in both rooms. The heating elements are embedded in very thin fabric-like sheets and don't really affect finished product very much. My tile installer was able to make it so the transitions between my home's original refinished 3/4" red oak flooring and the new tile are flush. It looks really good and the heating is fantastic. I definitely recommend doing the heated floors, just be aware that your electricity bill will definitely increase in the winter depending on how often you use them.

Seeking advice on what bathroom floor tile material to choose.
Go porcelain. More durable. Make sure it's a floor rated tile. These tiles usually come in sheets and if the installer isn't skilled, it becomes glaringly obvious. As for cracking or breaking. The most important thing is the tile base. You want to make sure that subfloor isn't flexing. I recommend a cement board then Schluter system. Make sure that the edges, wall to floor are caulked, not grouted and that you seal the grout to keep it clean. Additionally, grout is not waterproof, tile is not waterproof. Unless you go with a wet room installation with a drain, you're going to want to dry up puddles. Sealing the grout is something that needs redoing periodically. Darker grout can show water stains pretty fast. Yes, natural stone (basalt, will be harder to maintain) and require special solutions to clean it with. Also note that you want a semi-matte or matte finish on the tile to prevent slipping. More on reddit.com

What is the lowest maintenance shower floor tile?

There are several low-maintenance shower floor tiles to consider for your bathroom. Stone tiles are easy to keep clean and only need an occasional resealing to keep them looking their best. Porcelain is another low-maintenance choice, as it doesn’t stain easily. Vinyl is also suitable for easy upkeep. On the other hand, one of the highest maintenance options for bathrooms is wood tile.

What tiles should not be used on a shower floor?

When choosing tiles for a shower floor, avoid highly porous tile materials, like those with a water absorption rating over 7%. Don’t use non-vitreous tiles, or tiles fired at low temperatures, because they will absorb more water. If you use a highly porous tile in the shower, the tiles can wear down faster, meaning they’ll need to be replaced much sooner.

consider how light will play across your tile’s finish. glossy surfaces reflect light, while matte or honed finishes soften glare. as for shape: rectangular subway, slender stacks, or elongated planks draw the eye up or across, while multi-sized tiles break up monotony floors, improving traction and interest. then there’s texture: natural tiles such as slate can enhance shadows and highlight architectural details. there’s no one-size-fits-all ”best” bathroom tile, but finding the ideal option comes down to matching material properties with your design goals and lifestyle needs.
