I've used the first version and now this latest version (Immersion) for a while now... Works pretty well and miles cheaper than getting the equivalent Hue lights with their hdmi sync box. I think there's some new contenders out there now that mimic the hdmi box versus having a camera mount so worth having a look around on Youtube / Ebay / Amazon to see the latest and greatest. One random tip for setting up the lights and the pattern on screen... If you have a smart tv / apps etc...go to Youtube and search Govee Immerson setup / calibration etc....and there's a bunch of helpful vids which essen

I’m looking for tv backlighting. The immersive feature is cool but does it only match tv colors? Also looking to use to as ambient lighting if I don’t want the immersive option on, maybe just normal ambient warm light setting. Is that a thing with either govee or other tv backlight brands? Would also like the option to use as ambient lighting with the tv off. (I’m not sure if it normally syncs when tv is on/off) picture for example of what I’m trying to go for. Lol

This setup is pretty much top of the line when it comes to TV backlights. They range in price from like $30-$200 depending on what you need.

I have a Govee TV backlight that uses a camera to detect the TV screen's colors, and it makes the LEDs match those colors for more immersive TV viewing. I'm quite happy with it. The TV and the backlight are both added to my Google Home app, so I was able to make the lights sync with the TV's on/off state. If you don't set that automation up, it won't sync. You'll have to instead turn the backlight on/off using the Govee app. You don't have to make it match your TV color. That's just one of the options in the Govee app. You can choose to make it look like your photo if you want.

22 November 2025 - You’re getting camera-synced reactive lighting with fish-eye correction and DreamView compatibility at $46, which is 33% off. Philips Hue Play gradient strips offer less flexibility with similar functionality and will set you back a minimum of US$200. With real-time color matching, multi-device syncing, and universal compatibility, the end result is cinema immersion at a fraction of the premium alternatives.

I forgot the name, but around a year ago I heard of some sort of LED strips that are like backlights that go on the back of TV and they are immersive and change color based on the scene or something. Are these even real? If so, what are they called?

Forget the dynamic lighting, you want bias lighting. Get a cheap USB LED strip with white lights. https://www.howtogeek.com/213464/how-to-decrease-eye-fatigue-while-watching-tv-and-gaming-with-bias-lighting/

They're real. There's two types, one that has a box that you feed an HDMI signal into it and one that has a camera that sit on top of your TV. Govee is the camera type https://us.govee.com/collections/tv-lights or another one is Ambivision https://ambivision.tv/shop/ambivision-pro-ambient-lighting-system/ The HDMI solution would be like Hue Sync https://www.philips-hue.com/en-us/explore-hue/propositions/entertainment/sync-with-home-theater Now the real question is, do they provide any value other than being "cool", no, they're pretty much a gimmick, they don't improve the video/picture quality or anything like that.
