Dorm mattresses are brutal, so adding a topper is a must. I tried the Sleep Mantra topper during my time, and while it’s plush, breathable, and fits Twin XL perfectly, it’s more on the soft side. It adds a nice cushioned layer but may not be firm enough if your son prefers medium firm. For solid support, I’d recommend looking into a medium firm memory foam or a thinner latex topper. those offer better structure for someone who doesn’t like super soft options.
