How many miles are you going to put on this car a year? Is it all city driving? Assuming your not an Uber driver then getting a non-hybrid will probably be better. If you do go the hybrid route then at your price point you will be looking at older cars where the hybrid batteries may be near the end of life. It can cost a couple thousand to replace those batteries so make sure you factor that in. Those normally get replaced between 5-10 years and with the model years you would be looking at in your budget the battery may be close to getting replaced for the 2nd or 3rd time. As for make and model obviously Toyota/Honda have a reliable reputation for their sedans (Camry, Corolla, Prius, Accord, Civic) but they will cost a little more. Ford Fusion Hybrids are easy to find and reliability isn't a big step down. More on reddit.com

Isn't it obvious? Prius! Edit: On second thought, Prius is ok if you don't mind boring. I suggest it for it's efficiency even though I'd never purchase one. But my first suggestion would be a stick shift tdi, if you actually enjoy driving. More on reddit.com

So my father is looking to buy me a used sedan for college under 10k and he wants it to be a hybrid for the gas savings. Is it worth getting a hybrid over a regular sedan?
Also, what is a good hybrid sedan to get? We were looking at the Camry but it seems to have less power than I'd want. Is the Camry worth getting over say a regular (non hybrid) accord? What are other good options?
We'd prefer under 7/8k but may push to 10 if there's a really good option.

I wouldn’t get a hybrid in the $7k-$10k range. Because of their complexity, the reliability starts to fall off the curve when you get into the high mileage or high age that would put it in your budget. You might get lucky finding a recently replaced battery on a Prius, but those are few and far between. You’re better off getting a Japanese sedan with a regular 4-cylinder motor. Or bump your budget up closer to $20k.
