September 15, 2024Looking for a reliable used SUV that won’t break the bank
My kids have had Subaru Foresters for years. Very little issues. Been in a few accidents and kids walked out without any injuries. One was in an unexpected ice storm on an interstate! Lots of safety features on newer models. Small enough to maneuver but lots of capacity to transport larger items. More on reddit.com

This sub proooobably isn’t going to recommend the Audi over the Subaru, when your only requirement listed is “reliable”. The Audi will likely have more expensive maintenance, and will be more needy about getting it. On average, it will be a highest cost of ownership. But, if you’re willing to accept that, it’s a reasonable option for that type of vehicle. I’d also check out the 2021-2023 VW Tiguan, which should land at a similar price point for a higher trim level, and comes with a very-proven drivetrain. More on reddit.com

This is the research I’ve done so far. I hope to have this car for at least ten years so I’m not too worried about trade-in value. I know very little about cars so this has been overwhelming. Two notes about the chart above, exterior is subjective and I lowered the safety rating for the vehicles that were not 5 star in rollover and frontal crash. Also, I don’t mind waiting until Christmas to buy, if that helps.

You're being too much of a nerd. I do the same crap. Go out and test drive some of those hogs! Don't forget if its an SUV try parking a few different ways (back in, pull up, U-Turn to a curb and what not) and see what you like the best!
