Competition: What is the best Used, Cheapest, Reliable SUV?
I would just get a RAV4 or a CRV then. Because you’re also asking for cheap, I am assuming you also want decent gas mileage. That would rule out something like a Sequoia, though I do agree with the person above who suggested a Gen1. Same for the Tahoe suggestions. Are something like a Volvo XC90 or Lexus RX350 too small? A lot of older models of both of those on the road here. More on reddit.com

As someone who’s been a dealer, and owned a GM dealership... if I was in that price range I’d find me a Buick with a 3800 V6 in it. Sure Toyota and Honda make great cars, but Buicks are right up there in reliability and... You’ll find some 1 owner grandma driven LeSabre or something with 70k miles on it versus a Toyota with 200k on it for similar money. Buicks are relatively expensive cars new so people tend to take better care of them, especially if you find a 1 or 2 owner car. Also, Buicks tend to get driven by older drivers who don’t beat on them. It’s pretty common to see 10-15 year old Buicks at the auction in really clean condition. Anytime one of my techs had a kid going away to school they’d find them a Buick with a 3800 in it. They swore by these things and they’re pretty much indestructible. Plus they’re real cheap to fix. And don’t forget... first thing to look at on a used car are the tires. Chinese bargain brand? Pass. Deep tread Michelin, Goodyear, Bridgestones, etc? Car was probably cared for.
