I find antique shops never have vintage halloween decor and it's always overpriced. Ebay is nuts with the shipping and Facebook marketplace is a mess half the time but still sorta doable. Thrift stores often pull the vintage halloween stuff for auction before resellers get to it. I suggest oddity/curiosity shops and expos. They seem to have the best collections at the best prices. You can occasionally find some gems on fb marketplace or estate sales. There's a book that's quite expensive called the vintage halloween book by (i think) Robert s pandis. It'll tell you exactly what to look for. Always be mindful of lead, broken/cracked uranium glass , or older electrical models and light fixtures. Im sure this is not what you want to hear at all, but the beauty of a lot of vintage halloween decor, especially pre-50s, is that it was mostly handmade. That's something that can be used to your advantage. If you're looking more newer items with a more serious vintage feel, I can give you a couple of etsy shops in parciular that I know sell some cool stuff. Answer from Deleted User on reddit.com

My favourite vintage Halloween finds have been from thrift stores, Facebook marketplace, and local buy and sell pages. My luck is usually for late 80's-early 2000's, and I've picked up 3 near pristine 1990's Halloween blow molds from Kijiji for 40 bucks altogether and felt like an absolute bandit 🤣. You just have to check regularly as things are picked up really quickly by resellers who know the real resell value of vintage Halloween decor. Antique/older vintage pieces will run you up a pretty penny because of rarity but that's the unfortunate downside to collecting anything these days. Ebay shipping prices are maddening so I don't even allow myself to browse there. Facebook marketplace is great during the spring time/winter because its when people do their bigger house clean-ups. Antique stores often are more open to bartering but that really depends on who's working that day, and the particular antique store you're in. Luck is a huge part of the hunt! Beistle does a lot of reproduction vintage paper party decor if you're looking for more of the 2D variety. There are also some really great handmade/crafty tutorials on youtube if you want to get your hands dirty! A few years ago I bought a headless composite doll from a local seller and gave her a new head out of a foam pumpkin that I carved and weathered. Breathing new life to old pieces is a fun way to get into the spirit :)

r/halloween on Reddit: Any other vintage Halloween decor enthusiasts?
March 5, 2022 -

I am a "Halloween every day, Halloween in my home decor" kind of person. I think Halloween in general is great, but my favorite thing is the vintage vibe. I'll go ahead and lightly toss out the word "mid century", but really I like anything from the 50s to the 80s, I'd say.

What do you guys like to do and where do you like to shop? I've found the most success actually with Joann fabrics and some special art/prints from etsy.

Also, how "Halloween" do you guys like to take it? I personally try to focus on more fall tones/warm wood with a pumpkin here and a spooky ghost there.

My preferred theme is 20s - probably 80s. There's just something about the old stuff that seems so... eerie. I love it. Check out Bethany Lowe and Johanna Parker. Their stuff has that vintage feel to it. As said above as well, Christmas Tradition has some great vintage looking decor as well. Sadly, it's hard to find stuff that has that feel in most stores, though Homegoods occasionally has some stuff. Seems they're more focused on those dopey gnomes this year, however.

I keep a sort of Edwardian naturalist/midcentury vibe in my house, so bones and cool rocks and nature are my baseline decor. I also love animation, so some of the toony halloween stuff makes it in (like that one target sloth witch, and also a print from a friend that's based on over the garden wall). When Halloween gets really in swing, say September, I mostly just plus the aesthetic I already have - adding kinda spooky branches, hanging some of that "creepy cloth" on the walls, some dark jewel tone flowers in a vase. I have some cool iron bugs, including that overpriced PB spider bowl (which I adore) that I pull into the spotlight rather than where they live most of the year in one of my bookcase cabinets. I hang some plates with a vintage feel that I also got from Target last year (which was my first time decorating). Several of the decorations I got actually stay up all the time now, because they fit my home, ha - there was a snake wall sculpture from Michaels, and the little flower and skull basket arrangement lives on my dining table, and the claw-footed taper candle holders that sit on my sideboard. There's actually a website called Vintage Halloween, and I've thought about getting some of the papercraft figures there: https://www.vintagehalloween.com/ I had really good luck with Target last year (mostly online), and I try to pick one "big money" thing from one of the bougie places - grandin road, west elm, CB, etc. This year I'm really into the giant death's head moth embroidered clips at grandin road, so that will probably be what I add to my collection.

July 26, 2024 - No, I didn’t incorporate copious amounts of candy into the decor but I did try to create a very subtle/creepy vibe inspired by nature. I pulled a lot of my inspiration from the outdoors. I wanted to create a subtle and spooky vibe without all the bright oranges and gory visuals of classic Halloween. My idea was to use a ton of nature-inspired elements from my yard and tie them together with elements of my vintage hoardings to create a witchy cottagecore look…

September 9, 2025 - This thrifted lantern was so rusty and crusty that it just HAD to be used for Halloween decor- a Halloween terrarium, to be more specific. Image credit: Sadie Seasongoods. For the front porch, the thrift store handbag section might be your best bet. This straw tote bag was already orange and black, but you could totally spray paint a natural-colored one.
