Presumably this is for gaming? Logitech G305 is an excellent wireless mouse, that also happens to be available for <$35. It uses a AA battery instead of being rechargable, which is part of why it's so cheap, but it's very close in quality to their flagship $100+ gaming mice. For keyboards, depends on what you mean by "good". There are plenty of inexpensive wireless keyboards out there that'll all be perfectly fine. But if by "good" you mean "mechanical", then you probably want to look at offerings from Redragon, or the Keychron K8 / K6 which have options in the

I'm moving my wife's PC into the living room since she rarely uses it and I'd like to get a good wireless mouse and keyboard. I'd like to get something that's good but not so good that I'll be sad if my dogs get ahold of it. It doesn't need RGB lights but a backlight would be nice but not necessary.
I'm going to be putting the PC either next to or behind the stand where our TV is located so I'll be anywhere from 8-15 ft away. Any suggestions on good quality ones? No Razer products and full size keyboards are my only caveats.

Mice are not something anyone can tell you are best. You need to put it in your hands and choose. I have giant meat hooks. My favorite mouse is the corsair dark core. It has a little bumper to stop my pinky from dragging and feels like it fits. I love the g502 on paper many probably say it's the best. But it's too small. I never use it because of that.

Best Wireless Mouse&Keyboard combination for gaming ? - PCPartPicker
Wireless keyboards arent the best for gaming, I suggest a wired mechanical keyboard, Brown Switches are my favorite. And for a wireless mouse, I highly recommend the Logitech G602, its extremely comfortable, good palm grip if you have big hands. Multiple programmable buttons.

Like, a keyboard has an USB port and you plug the mouse into that?
yes

The USB wireless thing would be just for work so that I can switch to the laptop while having both the keyboard and mouse available using 1 slot only.
While gaming, I would keep the keyboard connected using the cable, while the mouse would be wireless, so they wouldn't share the bandwidth. As for the type of gaming, it would be a mix of competitive and casual (not too much competitive).
They make keyboards with a USB you can plug the mouse into.
