[question] What are some good mic recommendations for an android phone? Are there any mics that don't need an adapter?
When looking for a microphone that works well with an Android phone and doesn't require an adapter, it's important to choose one that can connect directly via USB-C (if that’s the type of port your phone has) or has a 3.5mm jack that is compatible with mobile devices. Here are some good microphone options that are designed to work seamlessly with Android devices: Shure MV88+ Video Kit: This is a high-quality, versatile microphone that comes with multiple accessories, including a digital stereo condenser microphone that connects directly to Android devices via USB-C. It's ideal for capturing high-quality audio for video, interviews, and even ASMR recordings. Rode VideoMic Me-C: Specifically designed for devices with USB-C ports, this microphone is compact and convenient for on-the-go recording. It attaches directly to your phone and includes a furry windshield for outdoor recordings. Sennheiser Memory Mic: This is a wireless option that connects to your phone via Bluetooth. Although it's a bit pricier, it offers excellent sound quality and the convenience of recording without a physical connection to your phone. Boya BY-M1: This is a budget-friendly lavalier microphone that works well with smartphones and includes a 3.5mm TRRS connector, ideal for vlogging and podcasting. It comes with a lengthy cable, allowing you to record audio from a distance. Zoom Am7: This is another excellent option for Android devices with a USB-C connection. It's a midrange stereo microphone great for recording music, interviews, and ambient sounds. Each of these microphones offers a different mix of features and pricing, so consider what fits best with your recording needs and budget. Whether you're recording podcasts, videos, or ambient sounds, there's likely a microphone in this list that can meet your requirements without needing an additional adapter. More on reddit.com

Suggestions for a lavalier mic that can plug into a phone? And an app to use on that phone? (android)

I bought a $35 radio shack lav mic and plugged it into my Samsung S4 Android and it worked with no adapter. In fact, the adapter messed it up.

For what you are doing you might look into this type of mic. http://www.amazon.com/Light-weight-Profile-Headworn-Microphone-Wireless/dp/B00K721BBI/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1435163616&sr=8-11&keywords=jk+headset+mic

That particular mic won't work. You would need to find a normal 1/8" plug on the end.

For an app I used the Smart voice recorder https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.andrwq.recorder&hl=en

I think a better way to go would be to get an actual voice recorder. The Zoom H1 is under $100 and will sound way better than your android phone.

I ended up buying the H4n with the Sennheiser wireless mic combo. It's expensive but I love it.

How important is the transmission distance for wireless microphones?
If you don’t shoot much outdoors, this factor is mostly irrelevant. How often are you 50 or even 150 meters away from your camera or smartphone? Very rarely. In addition, most models offer internal recording, which is less prone to dropouts.

December 9, 2025 - With many of the new features, you get the feeling that usability has really come to the fore. As a significant change, not only has the display become larger, but the DJI can also record internally in 32bit float. So you can be sure that there will be no connection errors or clipping, a really good feature! The workmanship of the charging case has also improved, it is the only one of the wireless microphones compared that is made of metal and only opens when you press the button.

Best flexible mic setup – Boya Magic: This affordable shapeshifter is four microphoness in one: lavalier, desktop, on-camera and handheld. All of them sound great to boot, but the tiny lav mic, weighing just 7g, is the workhorse you'll probably use most often. It doesn't offer direct Bluetooth recording, however. r/videography on Reddit: Best Wireless Microphones for Vlogging
May 28, 2025 -

Hey, I’m looking for a good wireless microphone for vlogging. I’m just getting started and plan to shoot daily vlogs using my smartphone, so I need something that’s easy to set up and use, even for a beginner like me.

I purchased the DJI Mic Mini. It’s been excellent for vlogging: clear audio quality, lightweight, and the battery easily covers long shoots.

I’m based in the US, so something easily available here would be great.

The microphone should have a wireless range of at least 50 to 100 feet, so I can move around freely while recording. I’d prefer something small and lightweight, as I don’t want it to get in the way during shoots. Audio quality is really important to me, clear sound with minimal background noise is a must.

I also need a battery life of at least 3 to 4 hours, since I’ll be filming outdoors and on the go. It has to be compatible with phones, preferably with simple plug-and-play support. I’d like it to be from a trusted brand, and my budget is around $100 to $150.

If you’ve personally used a good wireless mic or have one you recommend, I’d really appreciate your suggestion.
