Hi all,
Boyfriend’s birthday is coming up. He needs to add to his zip up hoodies (according to him).
He’s medium size guy 5’6”; 45M…he wears a medium or small depending on the brand.
He is a medium in American Giant.
I know Reigning Champ quality has gone to hell. But is it so bad?
I want something pretty nice- so $100-$300 is okay.
Right now I’m looking at American Giant.
But am I missing other brands?
Also, my location is Canada. But I have a buffalo mailbox- so US brands are all good.
UPDATE: thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I very much appreciated it. I went with Reigning Champ. Oxblood midweight hoodie and navy sweatpants. He loved them.
Link good Zip-Up hoodies, I don’t got any that are still my size anymore. I don’t have any budget it can be designer pieces I don’t mind just link good ones, it’d be appreciated 🙏
I'm searching for a Christmas gift for my husband. He's asked for a zip-up hoodie that will last a long time. His favorite hoodies are from American Giant, to give you an idea of the style he likes. Unfortunately the cuffs on those have gotten holes in them after 1-2 years so I'm looking for a new brand. He wants something that he can wear for years without fraying or getting holes. I'd be willing to spend up to $450 if the quality is truly there.
Edit: Thank you everyone for the fantastic suggestions!! I am sure one of these will make a great gift.
Hoodie addict. Looking for soft, not long, made perfectly. No budget. Thank you in advance!
Tl;DR Looking for a the best casual zip hoodie for planes, around town, office when they crank the AC, etc. Budget is $100, but I'd be willing to push it to $150 for the right item. Beyond weight and warmth considerations, I don't want something that looks like a jacket. Hood is optional, but would like it if possible.
I currently take an American Giant full zip hoodie with me for this purpose. It is bombproof and warm but also bulky, heavy, and not exactly comfortable...whenever I see it on a list of "most comfortable hoodies" I dismiss that list.
I know there has to be something better out there.
Things I have considered:
Various Amazon Goodthreads Hoodies. The price is right, but the quality seems lacking. I like the fact that my AG hoodie has been around the world and has a story and I hate buying disposable clothes.
Burton Westmate Polartec is something I have heard of. Doesn't look like a jacket. Doesn't list the weight but it can't be that much.
Icebreaker Shifter Reviews are mixed. Not sure how well Merino will hold up over time.
Patagonia Micro D No hood. Looks more like a jacket.
Other mostly cotton options (Reigning Champ, Carhartt, Flint & Tinder, etc): Hard to find the weight of the item. Concerned it will have the same bulky/weight issues as my current option.
I am currently leaning towards the Burton, but could be convinced on anything. Thanks!
Just bought one from Uniqlo and it’s awesome! Great quality, GREAT price. Super cozy and also stylish. Highly recommend them. The gray is cool too.
I am typically a medium-large in most tops and especially sweaters and the large fits me perfectly.

Now that I have that pulled up I might have to get another one lol
if you can find Chrome's merino cobra, I stand by that it is the best function/casual piece of clothing I have ever bought. As far as I know they stopped making it, which is astounding.
Im considering purchasing a hoodie and Im wondering which full-zip hoodie(s) youd recommend for under $110? Ive read that I should look for one with a ykk zipper?
What benefit(s) would I get from purchasing a higher-end hoodie? Im assuming thicker and potentially higher-end materials and better quality control?
Any specific qualities I should look for?
Edit: Forgot to mention that Im a male, but feel free to leave recommendations for either gender
I’m looking for a casual zip up hoodie jacket, but I’m not sure where to start looking, or what brand to trust. I’m not too picky on material, but a warmer style would be nice( gets kinda cold in Alaskan winters) The only thing I’m picky about is hoods, I like good fitting hoods, can anyone help?
Hey everyone I've come to the realization that I need to get a black zip-up hoodie so I was wondering if I could get some advice on what the best long-lasting black zip-up hoodies are, under $300 would be ideal! Thanks everyone!
Searching for this always brings up Carhartt, American Giant, Flint and Tinder 10 year, etc. then the comments are always how the one they bought a decade ago is a solid bit of kit that lasts forever, and how the brand sold out 3 years ago and everything is made in Asia for 5% of the cost and the quality is now awful. I want a hoodie made like the ones 10 or 20 years ago and properly lasts forever. I’d really like one that is 100% cotton but it’s not a dealbreaker if it’s a lower %. Must be black, full zip, and no massive logos. I’m in the UK but don’t mind paying overseas shipping for something properly good.

Hoodies:
The word hood derives from the Anglo-Saxon word hōd, ultimately of the same root as an English hat.
Hoodies are sweatshirts, with a hood. Wild stuff. Hoodies are a fairly standard component of a modern casual wardrobe. They have maintained popularity in the United States (and abroad) since the 1930s when they were originally used as cold weather workwear. Later, the hoodie was adopted by hip hop culture. Most recently, the hoodie has been a prolific part of the Black Lives Matter movement and the pushback against it.
There are two main camps, pullover, and zip. This choice will define the rest of your life.

Guidelines for posting here:
-
I'll post price bins as top level comments. Post recommendations in response to a price bin, as a second level comment. You can also use top level comments for general info, inspo albums, and general questions.
-
Recommendations can be a brand ("I like Kiton suits!") or a strategy ("I go thrifting for suits!").
-
Try to stick to one brand/strategy per second-level comment. If you want to recommend both Alden and Carmina, post them separately so people can vote and discuss separately.
-
Include a link in your second-level comment if you can -- if not to a purchase page, at least to images.
-
Try to use prices you might realistically pay. That might be MSRP, or it might not -- it depends. If you're in a cheap bin, maybe the best buying strategy is to thrift, or wait for a big sale. If you're buying from a store like Banana Republic, paying full price is simply incorrect -- the only question is whether you'll get 40% off or 50% off. So factor that in.
-
The bins are in USD, so either use a US price, or convert a non-US price to USD to pick the bin. There is no time limit on this thread, until Reddit stops you from posting and voting. This thread will sit in the sidebar for a long time, and serve as a guide for lots of people, so help them out!
I'm looking for a new black hoodie I can wear at work, I have broad shoulders, idk if that makes a difference. First time posting here. :D
I want to purchase 2 or 3 hoodies that are comfortable and good quality.
Budget: $100 each
I stopped wearing branded items a few years ago, it feels more sleek and elegant to me for some reason.
I had a zip up gray quicksilver hoodie that I bought in like 2012... I’ve been wearing it almost daily, till this day. Love this sweater, there’s only a small black square that’s quite hard to see, that has “QuickSilver” written on it in tiny letters.
This sweater is so comfy, sleek and stylish... got compliments on it all the time when I bought it.
Unfortunately, you can tell I’ve been wearing it for the past 6 years so I wanted to upgrade to a new QuickSilver sweater.
They’re really nice, but 1 problem:
The logo is more prominent.
Still small, but just bothers me and I don’t want to walk about being a billboard for QuickSilver... don’t like the idea of being “branded” and just wanna keep things simple. I’m OCD with logos like that...
My question is, anyone know of any zip up hooded sweatshirts like in these links, that are high quality, stylish, and comfortable, but have no (or nearly hidden) logos?

Edit:
-
Logos that aren't easily visible (like a small one on the bottom corner) are ok
-
Most logos can't be removed without damaging the material (Otherwise I would)
-
Yes, I did get compliments on a hoodie. That's how legit Quicksilver is (or at least was back around 2012)
I have a bunch of Yeezy GAP pieces which I absolutely adore, but it's still a little too hot in LA to wear them atm so I went to the mall today and I swear every single piece felt like horrible and looked like shit on top of that
I'm not even looking for anything too stylish, I just want something to lounge around with, but everything I saw felt like it would fall apart in a few washes
Double zip No polyester Monochrome, plain, basic Silver color of zippers No logos Straight fit not too tight not too baggy Reasonable price
I have been trying to look for a zip up sweatshirt or fleece that will last me a long time but I can’t find anything I like. The only thing I’m picky about is that it is made up of more cotton than polyester (I hate pilling and that polyester texture.) Thanks!
I used to have a The North Face full zip hoodie, which was light weight, would resist the wind and water. Until about 8-10C° it was enough to only wear this on my T-shirt. I am looking for the same type of hoodie. Las year I ordered a The North Face polar fleece, and its warm when there is no wind, but it has 0 wind resistance. Rain is also a problem. I am not looking for a shoft shell. It doesn't have to be from The North Face. The closest I could find is on the picture. Any recommendations? Thank you!
I've heard good things about American Giant, also looking for some lightweight ones as well. What do you guys like?
I’m looking for a hoodie with:
Lighter weight, upper limit of 7-ish ounces or so.
Full zip up.
No synthetic fibers.
Soft/comfortable fabric, not tough/rugged.
No or minimal branding.
Basically something you can casually wear indoors lounging around watching tv and just warm enough to wear outside in 60 degrees or so.
What are your favorites that meet these criteria?
What are your favorite stores to get a nice basic full zip hoodie? I'm looking to buy a couple, as I realised that I have way less hoodies than I thought I did. Also with Summer blowing by, I want to be ready for when Fall ambushes us.
Also, I have saw this picture,

And I was wondering if any of you fashion gurus would know where to get that same sweater, in the same colour of maroon, or something similar.
Can't wait to check out all of your recommended stores!
