You're posting in a Tableau forum, so you're going to get bias. In my opinion, Tableau is better, but sometimes PowerBI has very attractive licensing (free). Check out what your costs are.
With that being said, Tableau is good for exploration and visualization. I think you have more of a data pipeline issue, which I think is best solved before Tableau or BI ingestion.

I advise you first validate your costs for both options and what infrastructure you need to support either options before picking one. You might not even have the option to use Tableau because of cost and/or because you require O365/Azure services. However in terms of which one is "best": Power BI is great for doing analytics and internal reporting with many features regarding management of authorized report viewers. Tableau is the photoshop of reporting, it might not be as powerful as Power BI for crunching numbers in every scenarios and contexts, but it offers beautiful visual effects to wow clients. So if you do reporting for internal use, PowerBI is good enough and still can look professional. If the deal teams need to show this to clients for sales, then Tableau is better as long as you have an experienced UI designer. More on reddit.com

November 26, 2021Which BI tools impressed you the most (excluding usual suspects Tableau, Power BI, etc)?
For some reason every time I started at a new place, I was thrown right into the BI evaluation process. Having gone so far down the rabbit hole, here are the tools that really impressed me. Holistics (we use this) Looker Sigma Hex Hex is more of a notebook-style tool. It’s really fast, perfect for exploratory analysis. Sigma is spreadsheet-focused, so I imagine finance folks (or any Excel lovers) would find it particularly intuitive, plus it's got solid visualization features. Looker is an old favourite around here, you'll see plenty of love (and sometimes hate) for it in this sub. Holistics builds on the ideas Looker established, where data team defines the relationship between tables and how metrics are calculated on a semantic layer, and then everyone else can use the tool to build their own reports. What I really like is how they’re innovating where Looker is lacking, like with their visualizations. They've got this "dashboard as code" feature that opens up a lot of creative possibilities for dashboard designs. More on reddit.com

This article must be pretty old, it's quoting the Gartner report from 2019? And the SAP product these days is 'SAP Analytics Cloud' not Lumira although I'm sure that's still around. https://powerbiblogscdn.azureedge.net/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Figure1-981x1024.png I personally use Power BI as an BI Developer.. but I would expect my data scientists to be more in the statistics and creating models with at least some skills in visualisation with R or Python rather than a BI tool. Maybe I'm wrong?
