Hi all. I intend to use a Billy Bookcase as part of the internals for a closet. I want to mount a rail on the side of the Billy like shown in the photo (an example found online). Has anyone hear tried this? Is the Billy strong enough for this or do I need to an some reinforcement?

Build the Ikea billy hack for my first home. I'm so happy with the results! Only missing the baseboard.

I have to move some of my clothes from my walkin closet out into the bedroom. in existing closet I have two pax 29” x 23” w/o doors but with komplement accessories. In bedroom we have too many dressers. Ultimately I’d like to eliminate a dresser- and use a more closed wardrobe look. Thinking I can retire a couple of the existing komplement accessories… the 2017 pants hanger and shoe shelves - replace with glass front drawers- put items from dresser in them and use new Pax13 or Billy for shoes and folded items. I have two walls for new storage i can pick from - both roughly 63”L x 8’ H - however having tried the Pax 23” deeps on those particular walls - it’s quite overbearing. Hence me wanting a more slender unit.

Billy is versatile however I have never purchased them - and pax are budget friendly…until you had komplement accessories etc. And for my needs I don’t drawers just shelves and doors.

Billy - it’s versatile I can always use it anywhere else I like the price tag. And like the color choices even though I’d probably end up doing white. However the doors seem limited - I don’t want to have a display closet- Does Billy have an option that’s not all glass ? Preferably solid - no glass. And if that’s not so has anyone tried the diy privacy window film on the Billy glass doors? Are there are door options which are compatible? The billy works for shoes but would it work for folded clothes? Folded small :)

Or is pax better option even though I really only need shelves?

I moved a month ago. Some of you might remember my old post from it's early stage. As in my flat there's a storage room where I have all my stuff I don't need every day I finally had a reason to build myself a hidden room door.

I used an IKEA Billy bookshelf and build myself a door hinge wall mounted (as I can't drill in the floor for the mostly recommended door hinges because I'm living in a rental). Then I put a few wooden slats around the door frame, painted them white and filled the gaps between wood and wall with some silicone sealant. Now it really blends in and all my visitors so far didn't expected a room behind. Will share a video and pictures with better lighting in future. I'm really happy now! 😊
