Bing AI image generator clearly got so much worse. Why did it get so bad now? Was it on purpose?
It is incontrovertibly worse, and it was 100% on purpose. I emailed OpenAI support on November 25th about the worsening image quality. They insisted no changes were made. I have their comments in writing. I shared before-and-afters demonstrating the worsening quality. They continued to insist no changes were made. This, too, is documented. I was still able to get some decent, old-quality images, but it was getting progressively harder to generate. Then, on December 18th, they announced the change to model PR16 here: https://blogs.bing.com/search/December-2024/Bringing-more-magic-to-Bing-Image-Creator Since, it has become categorically impossible to render anything in the old quality. I have again emailed OpenAI support informing them that changes were, in fact, being made when they insisted, in writing, that no such changes were made, and kindly asked for someone to explain to me precisely how the newer/worse model is "higher quality" in any way whatsoever. I have predictably not received a response as of this message. All I can suggest is that everyone who is upset about this change should email OpenAI support and complain, because nothing will change back to the way it was if we don't. More on reddit.com

r/bing on Reddit: Bing AI image generator clearly got so much worse. Why did it get so bad now? Was it on purpose?
December 22, 2024 -

Im using the same exact prompts i used like 6 months ago and even a year ago.
Compare the image results and they look so distorted and bad compared to their previous versions. To the point i cant finish my project that relied heavily on these generated images... Because the new images just look so bad they dont match...
Why is this happening? Cant the devs see they are making it worse? Is it on purpose for some reason? Just revert back the changes and leave it as was.

Was this on purpose, right? Because it was simply too good to be free, right?
Is there a way to use the old Bing AI?

What are our alternatives?

Comparison, using the same exact promp, old images vs current images:

Old images:

https://imgur.com/a/5Nr89m1

https://imgur.com/a/97vRxw7

https://imgur.com/a/tIQC5nY

Sharp, straight edges, stunning.

Current images:

🤮🤮🤮🤮

https://imgur.com/a/qLbY3B3

https://imgur.com/a/gCidLTU

Distorted mess, unusable.

I don't understand why they would update it.

They could test it right after and clearly see that the changes were leading to worse results.

Why not just revert the changes?

We don't know. But I think it is some kind of universal law. Private companies can make new, better model. We saw it many times. But any steady "improvements" somehow are focused on optimizations of expenses (read - pruning), heavy censorship, including negative learning with destruction of whole concepts inside model and so on. One of the reasons of this law can be simple fact that actual factual skill of management and developers is very low. They just can't do any "improvements". They don't feel the consequences. In other words - they transfer their usual behavior in the field of bloatware to the AI. In image generators area it is now also idea to save artists income at all costs. By excluding as much art and good photos from training dataset, as possible. Also I see how control of art styles in Bing creators is gradually dropping, most probably for reason to avoid conflict with artists.

Bing’s Revenge and Google’s A.I. Face-Plant - The New York Times
February 10, 2023 - Right. But this one, actually, I was very impressed by because what it turns out Microsoft was announcing is that they are relaunching Bing, their famously-mocked search engine, with Open AI’s AI built into it. So it’s basically — it’s an updated model of GPT — we think it’s GPT 4.
