March 25, 2021 -
I am used to the google search engine, but there are times I use bing and duckduckgo. However, I would like to understand why duckduckgo has been more successful than bing and why the latter is not commonly used?

Basically, advertising. DDG Advertise it self as Privacy Search Engine when the need of it on the rise few years ago. Bing advertise it self as "Search Engine" nothing it gives, at that time it just try to survive from Google and not end up like Yahoo. DDG name is more rising when StartPage move hands, in same time others Privacy Search Engines practically unknown or not born yet (mostly EU based). Not necessarily a traditional advertising like banners on every corners, it also mouth to mouth advertising including ppl posts like this.

September 3, 2021 - As we wrote this article a few days after the 2019 Super Bowl, we tried “Super Bowl score” next, and all three search engines produced the right result in a box out above the search results. DuckDuckGo followed this with the official NFL site then some sports news sites, while Bing had a sports news site first and the NFL second. Google listed the score, then Super Bowl news, then some relevant tweets, and then other results.

October 30, 2018 - Some buzz has been generated by DuckDuckGo's "bang" feature — essentially, keyboard shortcuts to top sites. Search for "!a" and it takes you to Amazon, while "!yt" takes you to YouTube. I didn't find bangs particularly useful, as saved searches from your drop-down menu accomplish a similar, quick result without having to remember the actual shortcut. ... Most of Bing's unique features are shortcuts you would find on Google, like the sunrise trick or the unit conversion tool.

I'm sort of a fan of the lack of "instant answers" To me, and historically, a search engine is a navigational tool of the internet. And curated answers, from the provider is against the spirit of it I'm here for what the internet at large thinks about it, not whatever the crap you put in the top box. Putting the wiki page as the instant answer is great though

Okay, but type the word "Hello" into Google and see what you get. "bears" "fast food" "2023" Type "mexican" into Google, prepare to get a Wikipedia article of Mexican cuisine, a list of texican restaurants nearby, and a photo of Gary Alazraki and a bag of Takis. DuckDuckGo is partnered with Bing and uses Bing's index, which means it has access to Google's index, so it has a similar knowledge API to Google. What it doesn't have is an interest in is personal data or exponential revenue, and it runs a cleaner engine for it. DuckDuckGo remains a pretty objective utylity program. If the info you intended isn't upfront, it is likely within the first several links presented. If not, you may need to optimize what you type into the engine, but you're unlikely to receive red herrings, a frontload of ads, or straight-up discrimination. Type into Google, and receive a reply influenced by metadata and tailored to what is apparently your personal and demographically relevant preference. At the very least, you'll receive a heath of ads, promotions, and false trails to scroll past. A common Google search result presents the user with a UI disaster first and a comprehensive (often skewed) list of links second. It prioritizes subject over objectivity, and that's not the reliable thing to try to automate. Google also wants not some, but all the money, which presents an inherent bias and serious liabilities when it comes to being a kind of universal bibliography.
