Great, good to know. My question is, can I take out the USB Drive that is plugged in right now that I tried these steps on? The solid green light is on, and I'm wondering if I can just pull it out without causing any damage to the motherboard. Pretty sure a solid light means the procedure didn't start. The light should be OFF when it's done. You can shutdown the system. It's fine. The BIOS flashback didn't work or should I say didn't start. Answer from Nemesia on forums.tomshardware.com

Well every single avenue ive tried I get 3 green flashes followed by a solid green light. Ive formatted my usb stick and set to FAT32. Ive tried windows and Bootice so far to no avail. Ive tried multiple USB sticks and it appears whatever has gone on my first USB stick I tried has been killed. Ive cleared the CMOS and tried again. Ive triple checked im downloading the right bios thats compatible with my motherboard after seeing someone else have this trouble. Ive tried with just the motherboard connected to the PSU, ive tried it as a full system with the new 5600x with the RAM and everything plugged in asif it was a working PC. Im at a complete loss, wait months for my new stuff to arrive for this shit to happen. Please please please can anyone offer any advice

r/ASUS on Reddit: Bios Bios flashback light stuck on green
January 13, 2023 -

Just started my first build, I was aware I may had to do a bios update and I do because my bios is not up to date for my 5600 cpu. So I got a 32gb usb and formatted it to FAT 32. Went to the asus website and downloaded the latest bios for mobo. Did the renamer and put the CAP file in my root folder. Light turned solid green, searched reddit and found the convert to mbr and did that, then used disk management to "add volume" which aloud me to put it into FAT 32 and put files on the drive after converting to MBR. I am still getting a green light and have no clue what to do from here. Can anybody help me out or point me in the right direction?

July 27, 2021 -

I've been trying to update the bios with the flashback on my B550-F Wifi Motherboard in prep for a Ryzen 5 5600x.

I've followed videos and the Asus site for instructions.

I download the File to the USB Root Directory- Extract the file - Rename the file- and make sure the CAP file is the only thing at the top of my USB with nothing else in there.

The USB is also formatted to FAT 32.

Everytime, I put it into the Bios Flashback I get three flashes and a solid green light indicating the update is unsuccessful not sure what else I can do here.

Would appreciate any help.

r/ASUS on Reddit: BIOS Flashback Green LED keeps blinking on Asus ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming with no Boot
October 13, 2024 -

Hello all!

Yesterday overnight my PC suddenly stopped booting and the green BIOS Flashback LED in the back is blinking the whole time (I haven't pressed it). The RGB lights on the Mainboard are still on though, so it is getting power.

Cleared the CMOS then it booted up with all fans spinning but there was no display on the monitor and then after wanting to restart the system, it went back to the blinking green BIOS Flashback led state.

Then I tried updating the BIOS via Flashback but it just kept blinking green like before, seems like it just gets overwritten by whatever is going on.

Sometimes when pressing the BIOS Flashback button in the back, the system starts randomly which I do not understand to be honest but also with no display and the red Q-LED lights up on the Mainboard, which would hint at a CPU issue?

I'm really lost to be honest and have no idea what else I could try apart from getting a new Mainboard and/or CPU possibly.

My Parts:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D

RAM: G.Skill TridentZ5 NEO 32GB DDR5

GPU: MSI RTX 4070 Super 12G

MB: ASUS ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming

PSU: beQuiet PurePower 12 1000W

March 3, 2021 - Hello, I'm very frustrated because I cannot make the flashback work, obviously I already followed all the steps and tips that I found all over the internet to try to update the bios, but the weird thing is that it starts working for a moment and the light starts flashing and then the solid green light comes out after a while updating, I really don't know what to do because my cpu will arrive shortly but I need a gpu to see if the post works, any advice or something to solve this, nobody in customer service got help me with this.

r/buildapc on Reddit: [URGENT] Can I remove the USB if the bios flashback light is solid?
January 13, 2024 -

Like the title says. Can I remove the USB drive from the motherboard if the bios flashback light is solid (green in my case)? Can I remove it without hurting the motherboard?

Motherboard is the ASUS b550f ROG wifi with the 5600 installed.

Edit: unfortunately, it's not my pc, so I don't want to break anything, because I'll have to pay for damages and money is a bit tight at the moment

Edit 2: UPDATE: I have removed the USB drive and I didn't hear boom. At the time of posting this post, I was already waiting for 30 minutes. I watched this video and followed all the steps, inserted the drive again, held the button until it started blinking. At this point the light on the drive is blinking as well and it didn't do that before, so I think it's working. I'm at the end of writing this and the flashback light has stopped flashing, so I'm removing the drive right now.

Thanks everyone for commenting!

I’ve been unable to update the bios on this mobo for a while now and I believe it’s the only thing preventing my system from booting. I’ve got it on a bench? No cpu, no ram. But the bios light stays solid green once I let the button go. I’ve tried 2 different flash drives, all formatted to mbr and have tried may different bios versions, no success. Can anyone offer any advice?

What does formatted to mbr mean? The flashback device should be formatted with the FAT32 file system. The BIOS file should be renamed from whatever it was called when you unzipped the downloadable package from the ASUS support page in the form of xxxxx.CAP where the "x" should be replaced with the model of your motherboard (Your model model number is A5563 so the filename for the BIOS will be A5563.CAP. If you run Windows it is highly desirable to use the renamer utility that comes in the downloadable package, but this is not available if the host machine will not boot. The renamed .cap file should be the only file on the USB storage device. Power the machine down, wait about 10 minutes. Disconnect any USB attached peripheral devices not required to boot the machine (you need a keyboard). Do not power the machine back on. Insert the storage device with the renamed BIOS file in the correct USB port (it's marked on the back panel) and press and hold the flashback button until the green LED flashes three times. The green LED will flash at various frequencies whilst the update proceeds. Wait until the green LED goes out. It can take awhile. I've had flashbacks that needed 20 minutes or more. When the LED goes out, remove the storage device and then power the machine up as normal. The first boot after a flashback will take a long time as the machine goes through a BIOS updating phase, then a long POST while memory training routine runs. You should boot to the BIOS setup page (you will see "press F1 to continue"). When in the BIOS setup, navigate to the exit menu, select "load optimized defaults" and then save and exit. The machine will reboot. When POST completes reenter the BIOS setup and make any changes required by your configuration. Make sure the correct boot device is selected in the #1 position of the boot priority settings. Save and exit. The machine should boot to your desired operating system. Check critical functions, then reconnect (one at a time) any USB peripheral devices you disconnected earlier and you should be off and running. Make sure you install any updated chipset drivers, video drivers and other firmware to their latest versions.

I'm not really a computer person and my bf was the one who built the pc. However, ever since this morning there has been a green flashing light by the side of my motherboard. It won't turn on when I press the power button. I tried turning the power off and on but that also did not work. I have an Asus motherboard.

My bf brang back a USB stick and put it into my motherboard, but after hours it still has not stopped flashing. I haven't touched anything because I've been too afraid to touch it, but I'd like some advice as to what this is and what it means. And if there is any way to fix it.

I'm sorry if this is tagged wrong. Again I'm not a computer person.

r/ASUS on Reddit: HELP! BIOS flashback LED is blinking and PC won't start
November 13, 2024 -

Last night I turned off my PC as usual, nothing strange happened, this morning I went to turn on the PC and it didn't start, not even the RGB, not anything. Then I noticed a green light blinking on the back, it was the bios flbk, I didn't know what it was until now that I researched it. Tried everything to fix it, removed de CMOS, used a screwdriver to turn it on, checked the button itself, I tried to update the bios with a flashdrive, unplugged all the cables from the back, move it to my table and I connected the USB on the bios port, and I let it run for several minutes, but after 30 minutes I thought my MB was dead, so I just let it there to do some other things, came back 2 hours later, pressed the power button, and it booted, I got excited, turn off the pc again, put it back at my desk, plugged everything back, and now it doesn't start again, I don't know whats wrong, its been another 30 minutes, and it's still blinking, am I doing something wrong? And how did this happen if I never have messed with the bios or this button?
