Updating BIOS via USB (Not Flashback)
You can use any USB port, but make sure to use one directly connected to the motherboard (such as your case ports, not going through a USB hub). Make sure USB drive is FAT32, unzip the the file in the root folder (in other words, there shouldn't be any folders on the USB driclve), and make sure to run the tool to rename the CAP file to the correct name. In the end, you should have a single CAP file on your USB stick. https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1012815/ More on reddit.com

May 9, 2025 -

Hello,

I believe I need to update the Bios of my Asus ROG Strix B650-A Wifi MB and not sure on how. I went to the ASUS site and downloaded the latest version 3222. Mine is 3024, how ever, their are several versions in between my current and the newest, do I need to download all of them to make sure I have all updates? Also, when I used the renamer, it did not add the .CAP, so I did it myself, is this ok?

No you don't need any of the intermediate BIOS images, just the latest one should be fine. You can do the BIOS upgrade multiple ways. The easiest is to use BIOS flashback. Rename the BIOS file as instructed in your user manual. Place the BIOS file into the root directory of a thumbdrive that has been formatted as FAT32. Place the thumbdrive in the specific USB port for BIOS flashback and then press the flashback button on the IO panel. The LED should flash a few times and the BIOS will be uploaded without the PC being on. It can take anywhere between a few minutes to 10 minutes for the BIOS flash to complete so be patient, do not interrupt this process until it completes. When finished, the BIOS flashback LED should either change colors or will go out. The second way is to do it within the BIOS itselt. Enter the BIOS during boot by pressing F2 or DEL key. Navigate to tools menu. There will be a BIOS flash utility there. Enter the utility and you will be presented with drives on your PC. Find your thumbdrive and select the BIOS file. You will get a visual status bar as the BIOS is being flashed. Do not interrupt the process. When the status bar shows 100% you will be asked to reboot the PC.
