I currently have a free plan. My SO has a free plan. I have four other family members that have free plans.
I have a free organization with my SO.
I am considering subscribing to a family plan. However, I don't entirely understand how "organizations" work.
I understand that there can be multiple collections for each family plan. My nephew and his wife are two people I'm considering the family plan for. I'd like for them to be able to share a collection that only they have access to (or multiple collections). I'm guessing, since I can't find explicit documentation on this, that a family plan can only have one organization. Is this correct? Will I be able to keep my existing free organization, as well, or will that go away or be converted?

Access control is on a collection basis. A Family is essentially a single Organization, and you will be the Admin for that organization. Will I be able to keep my existing free organization, as well, or will that go away or be converted? I think your existing organization will gain more privileges. To wit, you can create more Collections, and you can store file attachments in those collections. EDIT: I doubt you need more than one Organization.

You can own as many organisations as you like, and you can join as many organisations as you like(including free ones). However, you can only own a single free organisation.
