I use Bitwarden almost 2yrs and my renewal is coming soon and I hesitate if I should do it because I see no benefit, the only thing I might miss is emergency access nothing else. yubikey i don't use, save 2fa in bitwarden never, Vote Vault Health Dashboard is useless, has no use. right now I'm testing Proton Pass but I won't move yet but I like the ease of use UI. It's not that I can't afford it, but see no benefit. Appreciate your recommendation

I'm paying for premium for almost three years now, I don't use any of it's services, I do it to support the app. It's the devs choice to offer most of the features for free, and I think that those who can spare the cost of the preimum should do it as a thank you.

I'd pay that $10 even if I didn't use any Premium features. Bitwarden is worth more IMO - even without Premium.

Is it worth getting premium? Is 2FA better than Google Authentificator or 2FAS App? Also what is the "emergency access"?

Title. I just signed up for a paid subscription but wondering if I will renew it. The free tier is probably good enough for me. How about you?

For me it’s not for features it’s for supporting the company. And paying for what I use and benefit from.

I like the premium subscription because it gives me Bitwarden Authenticator as well as file attachments in my vault entries. I am also a fan of FIDO2/WebAuthn, though that is evidently free now. Second, I am a strong believer in paying for what I use. Ten USD per year is a modest price to pay for the web hosting as well as continuing software development. This service costs Bitwarden money to operate.

Free user here and willing to pay for Premium. Actually have for the last few years.

But I'm not sure I completely understand the benefit as I do not think I'm using any of the premium features? Should I continue to contribute for the heck of it or are there features in Premium I SHOULD be using?

Aside from feeling good for paying for what you use (hey, the cloud servers are NOT free), I think the biggest win is the improvement in 2FA -- a Yubikey is both more secure and more convenient than TOTP. File attachments are nice to have, though you would need a Family account to put them in a shared collection. I have images of ID cards and vaccination records in mine. Others store gpg keys, ssh keys, etc. I am fond of Bitwarden Authenticator, though some regard their vault as a threat surface and choose to store their TOTP keys in another system of record. But you sure as heck can't beat the convenience. Bottom line is there is nothing in the paying version that you absolutely have to have, but most of us find it a worthwhile upgrade.

I've been using bitwarden free for 2+ years and bought it today finally cuz it's so good compared to all its competitors. It was also pretty inexpensive.

Honestly, if you use Bitwarden, I see no reason NOT to purchase Premium. It's absurdly inexpensive, it provides some nice features, and it gives some revenue to the company. It's a win-win, IMHO.

Hello fellow Indian , Nice to see some of us take password hygiene better. I have tried so much for my knowns to adopt a password manger whenever possible but 97% of them don't want to or won't without any reason.

I'm looking to get a password manager for my wife and me. The premium plan says it allows 2 user to share data with a free organization, but if you look up free organizations, it says that this isn't available to premium users without subscribing so I'm confused. Since there's only two of us, it seems silly to sign up for a family plan. We're looking for a password manager that will allow us to share some passwords, but not all of them. Would both of us getting a premium account allow that?

Premium will work fine for the two of you. I have Premium mainly because I want to support BW. Since my wife and I use and need pretty much all the same PWs we just both use the same vault so I don’t even use the free organization. It’s probably not “correct” but it works fine for us.

You can share a 1 extra vault even if you both use the free version.

I've been on the fence about paying €10/year for the premium version since it adds 2fa, and I've heard nothing but praise for that. But first I want to know how many people actually pay for bitwarden, and how many stick to the free version. Is it only the security "geeks" or people with sensitive information that pay for it, or is it more common?

it's so cheap, for such a great product. worth it

I pay it because its a fair price and im using yubikeys.

yes, $10/year is cheap. really cheap, if you ask me comparing bitwarden to 1password, lastpass, dashlane, etc. but what am I truly getting for that $10? i used to love lastpass but then they started charging. for the most part, bitwarden works like 95% of the time. there are some forms that lastpass would get right all the time and bitwarden doesn't even "see". other than a credit score (which i could care less about), what am i really getting for that $10?

Really depends how you utilize it. With Premium you get: Ability to use Yubikeys/security keys as your 2FA for logging into Bitwarden, which are currently one of the most secure forms of 2FA available. Ability to upload PDF scans of important documents, or pretty much any type of file you can think to save (wedding pictures? config files? software license files?) , to the 1GB of storage space. Ability to securely check all your passwords for exposure against HaveIBeenPwned with one click in the Vault Health reports, along with other useful checks. Ability to set up Emergency Access for someone in the event something happens to you or you are no longer able to access your vault. Ability to use Bitwarden Send to easily, and securely, share files with other people. Ability to utilize Bitwarden as a TOTP Authenticator to generate 2FA tokens for 2FA on other websites, should you feel sacrificing a little security for convenience is acceptable and worthwhile. Priority Customer Support should you need help with anything. That warm and fuzzy feeling you get when you support a company that makes a good product, has truly helpful employees, and goes against the industry grain and tries to do things differently, and arguably better, than other companies in the same category.

I use it for the Yubikey authentication and occasionally send as well. I mainly bought it because I appreciate the quality of the free service and want to support them

So I'm a Lastpass refugee ... used that tool for 10yrs? Obviously change to new manager is going to be clumsy . My wife and I had a LP family account ... so when I exported my vault from LP I think (?) I have all our logins .. still trying verify that. Assuming that is the case .. whats the best option? Premium and share with her ? .. Does she just set up a free account? Family seems overkill but not sure how the Prem & sharing works

With two free accounts you can create a single Organization, create a single Collection (for sharing). I recommend starting here. No need to swallow the Kool-Aid yet. The Premium subscription gives you the ability to use Bitwarden Authenticator. If you like BA, you will want to upgrade your account. If you share a vault entry with a TOTP key in it and your wife has a free account, she will be able to see the key but she won't be able to generate the current TOTP token using BA. As far as sharing, you cannot store file attachments in a shared Collection unless you have a Family account. That is important to some people. For us, I just made copies in each vault. $40/year was too much for us, especially since my wife is a very basic Bitwarden user. Premium has other benefits, such as Emergency Access and better 2FA methods (especially a FIDO2/WebAuthn hardware security key). But I suggest starting small and decide how much you really need. Y'all can get started with two free accounts.

Like u/djasonpenney said, if it’s just two people you should make two individual accounts and one free organization. If you find that you like having the premium features (like FIDO2 for 2FA, Bitwarden Authenticator where Bitwarden generates TOTPs—I find this particularly useful for shared logins—emergency access in both directions, etc.) then you might both end up getting premium. Or maybe just one of the accounts needs premium. You can figure that out over time. The family plan is twice as much, so it doesn’t make sense for two people. It does have a couple of benefits, but they’re probably not worth $20 per year. For example attachments in the organization. I also find it more convenient to have my billing in one place (as opposed to two different accounts, each with premium).

It is clear that Bitwarden is the best free password manager around. But in your opinion, is it still the best among the paid ones?

Reason: I started using Bitwarden when I was younger mainly due to its negligible cost, although I always paid for the premium version to support it. Now that I'm older and have a job, I was wondering if, for a service like password managers which I consider important and which I would gladly pay for, it would be appropriate to continue with Bitwarden or there are better alternatives out there. What do you think?
