Hotel Reverie, in which modern film star, Brandy (Issa Rae) is hired to remake a Casablanca-esque classic in real time, lacks neither money nor ambition. Taking place largely in a black-and-white reconstruction of a 1940s Cairo hotel, our hero is placed into a virtual world based on the film’s script – complete with a digital recreation of the movie’s troubled star, Emma Corrin’s Dorothy.

Black Mirror: Hotel Reverie Review Hotel Reverie follows an actress who gets a unique opportunity: the chance to star in a remake of an Old Hollywood classic by being transported into the film itself.

“Hotel Reverie” is the third episode of Black Mirror’s seventh season. Very quickly, it seems to want to mimic some of the storytelling and themes from “San Junipero”, one of the best episodes of the series, but falls flat in doing so. Spoilers for Black Mirror season seven episode three below.

Hands down, one of the most beautiful and heartbreaking episodes they've ever done. It's like a tragic love letter to old Hollywood wrapped in everything that makes Black Mirror so haunting and brilliant.

Note: This story contains spoilers from “Black Mirror” Season 7, Episode 3, “Hotel Reverie.” In “Black Mirror’s” “Hotel Reverie,” Hollywood A-list actress Brandy Friday (Issa Rae) is thrust into a classic romance movie, kickstarting a love story between her and one of the film’s AI-generated characters, played by a star from the 1940s (Emma Corrin).

The episode centers on an ailing studio’s effort to reclaim its glory days by recreating its version of Casablanca, titled Hotel Reverie, using an AI technology that allows a new actor to play the lead. After A-lister Brandy Friday (Issa Rae) expresses interest — and all of the famous Ryans pass on the project — the studio agrees to cast her in a role that was previously played by a white man.
