[OC] Historical revision to BLS's preliminary employment report
My take-away: the preliminary reports are not good at capturing extremes, so the revisions can tell a story of where the economy is. When times are good, BLS (Bureau of Labor Statistics) generally revises up (e.g., see 2011-2016). When times are challenging, BLS revises down (see 2008). We've been revising down effectively since the end of the chaotic portion of the pandemic ('21~'22). Sorry for the typo in the chart title :( More on reddit.com

Officially BLS Jobs Numbers Were Revised Down 10/11 Months in 2023, The First Time Since 2008

Wow this is a terrible way to present this data lol. I don't doubt the trend but there has to be a way to present this information in more clear detail than percent of months where jobs went down by any percent.

New Jobs Report, are things really getting better?
It has always felt awful to be unemployed and looking for a job. It takes a long time to find one, and the constant rejection can kill anyone’s spirit. Employed people don’t think about it until they find themselves experiencing life as job seeker. There are only a handful of careers where people can easily get laid off and then employed. And even those opportunities get more difficult to find as people age. It’s difficult to understand ageism until you’ve experienced it. Some people are doing very well right now. Some are struggling. I hope you find a job soon op. More on reddit.com

new data shows overestimated job growth by almost 800,000 in 2023.

This is some serious political drivel from the heritage foundation. The whole article boils down to "BLS made downward revisions to job growth throughout 2023 and the fake mews doesn't report on the downward revisions. Economy is actually very bad and Biden is fudging the numbers."

Except that news agencies obviously do report on the downward revisions, and they report on the revised average growth, and the job growth was still very good. This article's only purpose is to shit on Biden because of how the BLS analysts revise monthly reports. Asinine.
