I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this, but I was hoping some Coloradans could help clarify something that's puzzled me for a few years now. I've driven through Colorado several times on my way to and from school in California and I've noticed that you guys seem to have an inordinate amount of different license plates. The one I've seen most is this green mountain one.
However, I've also seen that in red, blue, purple, and maybe some others. In addition, I've seen several military branches, a "respect life" one, ethnicity ones, and I think even an "ice skating" one! My question is, why do you guys have so many license plates? Can you just make any kind of license plate you want or what? I don't mean to insult you guys or anything, I've just never seen a state with so many different plates!

The Department of Revenue discovered they can get a ton of money out of custom plates. So yeah there's like a dozen varieties. Somewhere on the Colorado DMV site you can find them all.

In my experience, stay away from people with the "Respect life" plates. Biggest ass hole drivers on the road, no respect for anyone's safety...
