Like it was mentioned already, BT will be the limiting factor but also the audio compression codec used by your calling app (Teams, Zoom etc.) You'll get better results with a headset that has a boom mike, stay away from the ones with the microphones built into the ear cups, they will make you sound even more muffled to the other party. Since you want wireless, here's the three setups that have boom mikes I've used: Airpods Max with a wireless Antlion mod mic (attaches magnetically to the ear cup) - best option for sound quality and noise suppression or transparency for you, but obviously not within the budget amount you've mentioned. Jabra Evolve 75 - overall a good option, comes with a USB dongle for your computer which is way more stable and easier to use than regular BT (which it also has). You'll sound just fine to the other party and it even has some rudimentary active noise cancellation. Good option overall, I don't like use it though because I hate not being able to hear myself when I speak, so I always used to shift one ear cup sideways to open up an ear so I could hear myself clearly. The battery life is amazing, they'll easily last the whole day and then some. Also have multipoint connection, ie they'll connect via the dongle to your laptop and via BT to your phone or tablet, and you can seamlessly switch between the two. Great set if you don't mind not hearing yourself clearly while talking. Shokz Opencomm 2 UC - a bone conduction set, meaning that the sound is not produced by a speaker sitting on or over your ear, but by two fully enclosed transducers which sit on your temples in front of your ears. Pluses - comes with a USB (type A or type C) dongle so super stabled and no hassles with dropped BT connectivity or Teams decided to switch to your laptop mic and speakers after an update or a restart. Because your ears are not obstructed in any way, you have full auditory awareness of what's going on around you, this can be a plus or a minus depending on your environment and preference. The headset is super lightweight and you can barely feel it after a while. Also the battery lasts all day. The minuses - again, no sonic isolation or active noise cancelling for obvious reasons, the sound quality is great for speech but not so much for music since they're optimized for the vocal dynamic range. Also, some people report that they experience discomfort wearing them - I can see where that is coming from but I am used to wearing them. Overall, their pros definitely outweigh the small cons for me and this is now the headset I use for daily calls while working from home pretty much full time. Answer from Uncleeegz on reddit.com

r/HeadphoneAdvice on Reddit: Bluetooth headphones with the best microphone for taking calls?
December 20, 2023 -

I wanted to ask what the best options are when im looking for a pair of bluetooth headphones that have a good mic suitable for calls. My budget is 225 USD. And yes know that i would get better sound for cheaper with a wire but they have to be wireless.

When i looked into this i found that bose (specifically the Bose 700) is supposed to have very good microphones but i also wanted an outside opinion.

Thanks :D

Wireless Mod Mic interferance with Bluetooth Headphones
ModMic staff here! First, the ModMic Wireless is designed to be used on the right side of your headphones, in part to avoid placing it too close to the more common transmitter side (left). More importantly, when mounted on the right the charging cable port is pointing down so it will charge without putting a bunch of torque on the mic. However, if you really want to try to use it left-mounted there are two possible solutions: 1: With the headphones on AND transmitting music, re-pair the ModMic device by holding both the receiver button AND the mic power button until BOTH devices are quickly blinking, then let go. This may find a channel that isn't impacted by the QC35. This may not solve the issue, as it may not be channel related. 2: You can probably just move the mic to a different spot on the left earcup and solve the issue. Move the mic around with your hand before placing it, but probably up near or even ON the headband should do. May look a little funky, but as long as the mic can reach near your mouth and away from your breath it'll be fine. I hope this resolves the issue. Please let me know via DM or reply one way or another! We still strongly recommend just mounting on the right side regardless due to the charging port. More on reddit.com

Help! Microphone Settings for Bose 35 Wireless Bluetooth Headphones

The headphones won't be able to do this. The QC35's operate in two modes; headphones (1) and headset (2). When you pair the QC35's with your iMac (or notebook), they are in headphones mode. Audio quality is fine and things sound great. But, when you take a Skype/FaceTime/whatever call, they switch over to headset mode. Headset mode sucks as it has a reduced bandwidth and therefore reduced quality. It's the only way to use the QC35's built-in microphone though. Whenever you take a call, your notebook and iMac are going to automatically switch the headphones over to headset mode. You'll then have to manually switch them back to headphones mode.

I do know that you can choose to ignore the headset feature of the QC35's using Windows 10. That means that the PC would just use the QC35's as headphones and not rely on their microphone and not switch them over to headset mode. I'm not sure if there is something like that in macOS, you'll have to play around with the settings. Maybe there's a way you can tell macOS to ignore the QC35's microphone.

Best Wireless Gaming Headsets 2025: Bluetooth, Budget, and More | Tom's Hardware
November 19, 2025 - The headset comes with a detachable boom mic, but it also has built-in mics in the earcups — they're not great, but they're convenient if you need to take a call and you don't have the detachable mic with you. The Maxwell offers both 2.4GHz wireless and Bluetooth connectivity, but does not mix audio from both sources and — much to our annoyance — switches between sources automatically (prioritizing Bluetooth).

r/buildapc on Reddit: Wireless headsets with great mic quality to buy?
September 23, 2024 -

Hello, I've wanted to change my headset with great mic quality recently, especially the wireless one, because I have a lot of wire stuff in my room, and sometimes it will all get tangled up which is quite annoying. I have do some research and found some options listed below:

  1. Astro A50 Gen 5.

  2. Corsair HS80. This is what I want to buy the most, the mic quality is very decent for a wireless headset IMO, and it also has a great price.

  3. Blackshark v2 Pro 2023. Great mic quality, but I've heard that the build quality is terrible.

I can afford A50, but I still prefer to look for the cheaper option, because I don't really need the "best" one, one that is good enough will do for me. What do you guys think? Is HS80 great? or any other recommendation?
