If you're planning to live there for a few years, go with the siding. It'll last longer and you can put in landscaping a little at a time as you live there. If you're planning to sell it immediately, I would recommend at least a minimum amount of landscaping simply to ground the house to it's surroundings. Answer from Deleted User on reddit.com

Is installing cedar siding worth the extra cost compared to fiber cement siding? - Quora
Answer (1 of 5): It depends on your priorities. Cedar (and wood in general) has a certain warmth and authenticity that nothing can replicate. After all, fiber cement and everything else is almost always trying to replicate wood. Cedar siding will be more maintenance than fiber cement. If you are...

Board and batten vinyl siding?
I have vinyl siding on my current house and hate it. Stuff cracks stupid easily in the cold. Accidentally kicked the corner trim on my garage one winter and cracked the crap out of it. Pain to replace that peice. Also a pain to attach anything to the house. I would take Hardie board over vinyl any day. More on reddit.com

Exterior cost so high
My roof and siding was 70k on 4400 square foot and the roof was a combination of presidential and metal. So I would say 95k is ridiculous. I’m also outside of Seattle in a very hcol area. More on reddit.com

Best product for board/batten siding: LP, TruWood, or Hardie?
I prefer hardie. I left a couple pieces laying soaking on my deck over a Canadian winter and then put them back on the house in the spring. A little fragile at first, but now I can't tell which ones they were. Dust is an issue, and installation is big since you can put up full sheets with fewer breaks in the siding. Get a nibbler if dust is a big concern. More on reddit.com

r/Homebuilding on Reddit: Which will give me more bang for buck?
July 6, 2021 -

We 24k left in budget, we are exploring whether we want to do the entire house in LP Smartside board and batten or get some landscaping done. The board and batten siding is going to cost 17,500 -- although I think that is very high on top of a construction loan that already included the cost of vinyl.

It's been difficult getting a call back on landscaping but with that budget, I'm not sure what we could really get for it.

Which is going to give us the most resale value between the two items?
