Here’s why we used ACX Plywood instead of traditional board: this type of plywood is made of high-grade ‘A-type’ plywood on one side and a lower-grade ‘C-type’ on the other, and the two sides are attached by using a weather-resistant glue.

Anyone have board and batten style hardy siding?
I’ve heard good things about hardee board. The pigment is infused throughout the material, which helps minimize fading. The biggest complaint is that it is hard to cut and nail because it can chip and break during installation when you hammer and saw it. Otherwise it is super durable and pretty. My friend sells it, so I’m a bit of a fan boy. He always says the full name. “Oh you mean, ‘James Hardee Fiber Cement Siding?’” He gave our class the sales pitch in grad school and I was impressed.

Boral and Azek may make products that could work for board and batten. Also, if it comes down to it, don't compromise durability and longevity over a horizontal seam that could be hidden or minimized on a garage exterior. You will regret it. More on reddit.com

December 22, 2016What's your take on vertical wooden siding for a house?
It matters where in Canada you are and the type of wood used. Cedar is great on Vancouver Island and in the Maritimes where there is high moisture; but would crack in a dry climate much more quickly. Vertical siding is typically board and batten. That look is typically associated with cottages. Realistically you’re probably better using hardie plank or another siding type then incorporating wood features and shingles. It will last a lot longer giving you a better value. More on reddit.com
