This is for all my fellow Linux users who removed windows but now are struggling because there is no way to create a Win11 Bootable USB .
https://nixaid.com/bootable-usb-windows-linux/
The Only way that worked after trying woeusb , 4 usb writes , dd command , Fedora writer , unpacking and copying the iso and ventoy.
Have Fun
I really wanted to use ventoy. But whatever i did i was constantly getting `alloc magic broken` error when i tried to install win11 with it. Installing woeusb-ng is less than ideal as well, since its a python package. I dont even know why balena etcher exists when it cant do windows.
Anyways then i started using woeusb-ng but the grub installation took 30mins. I have no idea what it installed that took so much time. There is no progress bar as well so i didnt exactly know if it was bugged or not.
Honestly i really wanted to use linux, this is not my first time installing linux to try it out and probably wont be the last. But for now, i think imma head back to windows.
Edit: I am honestly repelled by the fact that so little amount of people on this subreddit knows what they are talking about. People are actually saying use ventoy when i specified that it didnt work, use balena etcher when it cant burn windows usb... woeusb never finishes its process. There is actually no way to do it unless you know the inner workings of windows and BIOS. Ventoy forum has no button for thread making as well. Its a big hoax.

This is kind of an advanced question, but i'm trying to make a bootable use for windows for a friend. I'm using the WoeUSB tool to make a boot usb but it's getting stuck at "Installing i386-pc platform." it's been like this for a while and idk what to do if i should cancel and start again or what. I've already tried looking it up but google voids no results. any help or insight is welcome.
Hi everyone. I am looking for a way to make a bootable usb with windows 11 for an older laptop that has the possibility to bypass TPM thingy just like Rufus for Linux, I am using Ubuntu, I am totally a beginner but I am literally not regretting switching to Linux. 🙏 Thanks!
My school's considering using proctoring software to conducts exams, the app is Windows only, so I just want a windows installation USB if they do start using proctoring software.
I've tried dd, and etcher. The USB doesn't boot up at all. Help pls.
I put my iso on a usb but it said that i dont have some drivers and to install them (i use linux and i want to dualboot windows 11 just for music producing)
My hard drive crapped out on my personal laptop (an Acer running Windows 11) and I got the "No bootable device" error while I was using the machine. Since it was likely a bum harddrive I updated from 256G to 1 TB (Western Digital; windows compatible). Part of the problem I'm having is that the only other laptop I have to make a boot drive is my work laptop (running Ubuntu). This is my first Linux laptop, but I have some experience (I'm a developer).
I tried making a straightforward jump drive using FAT32, but quickly found out that the 5Gb ISO was too large to move to a FAT32 USB. Next I tried to split/copy/cat the ISO and I was still getting an error that the file size was too large. Then I tried moving the individual files, but the install.wim was still 5G. Finally I tried switching to NTFS and was able to move the ISO that way.
Once I had the USB ready, I tried a fresh install and received the "pxe-e61 media test failure new hard drive" error. I accessed the boot menu and made sure to switch to Legacy and prioritized the USB as the first option. Am I missing something super obvious? Could it be a bad brand-new HD? I saw that I can order USBs online, but I've reinstalled Windows on several different machines in the past and never had this problem. Trying to sort out if it's an allocation format problem or hardware. Thanks in advance for any help.
Reformat the USB to exFAT using the disks utility in Ubuntu first. Then download balena etcher (it'll be an appimage) and use that to create the bootable Windows USB. It sounds like whatever process you used to create the USB didn't create a bootable partition and is failing over to PXE (network boot) because of that.
Am I missing something super obvious?
You won't be able to boot off the USB thumb drive if you just copy some files to it.
If you have a bootable image then just dd or cat it to the thumb drive. No need to format the drive with any file system.
Could it be a bad brand-new HD?
No, it's just empty. Your computer is trying to boot off the ethernet, because there aren't any bootable devices and you don't have a TFTP server.
Hey, I was wondering how to make a bootable media on Linux to get back to Windows 11? I am unsure if Linux distributions matter but i am having issues doing this just to get back to Windows 11. If someone can help me with this i would appreciate it.
I tried using woe USB and it seems not working. While i try to boot from the usb, It gives me a blue screen with only the mouse in it.
If you haven't heard of Ventoy https://www.ventoy.net/en/index.html you ought to try it. Ventoy allows you to very easily make a multi-boot capable USB drive.
Basically, you can just drag and drop many ISO's (Linux, Windows, etc.) to your USB without having to "flash" your USB using Rufus (or any other similar tool) and just boot them from a list.
Doing so, I was easily able to install Windows 11.
I'm on Pop OS and I need to make a Windows 11 bootable USB but most tools I have tried don't work with Windows ISO's, and I don't have a Windows PC in order to use Rufus.
Fedora media writer does write the image but doesn't boot correctly, Balena Etcher doesn't work at all, unetbootin doesn't detect my USB, the usb flasher included with pop os plainly says it doesn't support Windows ISO's.
I don't have the skill to use Ventoy.
Thank you in advance, would really prefer easy to use options, I'm just flashing a usb I would prefer to do it the easiest way possible.
Hi
I am running in circles RN
My Fedora install is extremely buggy
I want to install Windows on the second drive so I can at least update the Bios and stuff
I can make a botable windows USB pen because Rufus only works on windows, Ethcher does not work, Fedora media Writer does not work.
SO what do I do now
Is there really no way for me to make a Windows USB pen through Linux that can Actually boot ?
I have followed the steps from this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMEHuLs9XkQ&ab_channel=IntoGuide
and I couldn't get it to work. The only difference between what I did vs what he did is I did sudo mount -o loop ~/Downloads/Win11*.iso /mnt/ and the I copied and pasted contents from /mnt/ into my usb drive. Perhaps it's something I need to tweak in my bios? I am using an Asus ROG Strix laptop running endeavour os i3.
What I did: disabled Secure Boot, disabled Fast Start in power options. Changed boot order in UEFI to boot from USB, and booting from main drive is disabled.
Nothing happens, it boots into Windows. It doesn’t even give me an error code. It’s as if I hadn’t done a thing.
The flash drive is in place when I restart, and somewhere I read it should be inserted after restarting, but this seems weird because if it’s not even in the drive it has even less reason to boot from there.
Now I’m thinking it might be Bitdefender. I’d hate to uninstall it for nothing, and uninstalling is the only thing that would stop BD if it really is the reason, so I’d rather rule out everything else first, but I don’t even know where to look anymore.
Any ideas what I’m overlooking? Thanks.
