I really wanted to use ventoy. But whatever i did i was constantly getting `alloc magic broken` error when i tried to install win11 with it. Installing woeusb-ng is less than ideal as well, since its a python package. I dont even know why balena etcher exists when it cant do windows.

Anyways then i started using woeusb-ng but the grub installation took 30mins. I have no idea what it installed that took so much time. There is no progress bar as well so i didnt exactly know if it was bugged or not.

Honestly i really wanted to use linux, this is not my first time installing linux to try it out and probably wont be the last. But for now, i think imma head back to windows.

Edit: I am honestly repelled by the fact that so little amount of people on this subreddit knows what they are talking about. People are actually saying use ventoy when i specified that it didnt work, use balena etcher when it cant burn windows usb... woeusb never finishes its process. There is actually no way to do it unless you know the inner workings of windows and BIOS. Ventoy forum has no button for thread making as well. Its a big hoax.

May 24, 2021 -

My hard drive crapped out on my personal laptop (an Acer running Windows 11) and I got the "No bootable device" error while I was using the machine. Since it was likely a bum harddrive I updated from 256G to 1 TB (Western Digital; windows compatible). Part of the problem I'm having is that the only other laptop I have to make a boot drive is my work laptop (running Ubuntu). This is my first Linux laptop, but I have some experience (I'm a developer).

I tried making a straightforward jump drive using FAT32, but quickly found out that the 5Gb ISO was too large to move to a FAT32 USB. Next I tried to split/copy/cat the ISO and I was still getting an error that the file size was too large. Then I tried moving the individual files, but the install.wim was still 5G. Finally I tried switching to NTFS and was able to move the ISO that way.

Once I had the USB ready, I tried a fresh install and received the "pxe-e61 media test failure new hard drive" error. I accessed the boot menu and made sure to switch to Legacy and prioritized the USB as the first option. Am I missing something super obvious? Could it be a bad brand-new HD? I saw that I can order USBs online, but I've reinstalled Windows on several different machines in the past and never had this problem. Trying to sort out if it's an allocation format problem or hardware. Thanks in advance for any help.

You should replace the /dev/sdX with the proper USB flash storage device. Also, you should be in the directory where the iso file resides. Please only retrieve the Win11 ISO file from the official Microsoft web site. Some malicious web sites with a Windows 11 download button have been distributing nasty malware. 🐧Linux Mint 20.3 XFCE (UEFI - Secure Boot Enabled) dual boot with Windows 11 Give a friend a fish, and you feed them for a day.

Ventoy did not work for me so this is what I did: I installed virtualbox, i created a windows 10 virtual machine, I searched a tutorial for enabling usb ports for the virtual machine and created the windows installation media using that windows 10 virtual machine

The best way to create a Windows installation drive from Ubuntu is to find a friend using Windows who will let you use his/her/their Windows computer for about an hour. Here's the drill: (1) On your friend's Windows computer (not a computer running Linux), go to the appropriate "Download Windows" website: Windows 10 - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 Windows 11 - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11 (2) Scroll down the page to "Create Windows ... installation media" and click the "Download now" button. (3) A small executable (MediaCreationTool22H2-W10.exe in the case of Windows 10, mediacreationtool-W11-22H2.exe in the case of Windows 11) will be downloaded to the computer's Downloads folder. (4) Plug your installation USB into your friend's computer. (5) Run the executable. The executable will download Windows 10 or Windows 11, as the case may be, onto the USB, and then make the USB bootable. The download will be verified, the boot sector will be verified, and Windows will prepare the USB for use. The process will take about 30 minutes. The executable will make NO changes to your friend's computer. (6) Remove the USB from your friend's computer (remember to use the "Safely Remove" process). At that point, you will have a bootable USB that can be used to install Windows on any computer. Just boot and let the installation process roll.

I'm on Pop OS and I need to make a Windows 11 bootable USB but most tools I have tried don't work with Windows ISO's, and I don't have a Windows PC in order to use Rufus.

Fedora media writer does write the image but doesn't boot correctly, Balena Etcher doesn't work at all, unetbootin doesn't detect my USB, the usb flasher included with pop os plainly says it doesn't support Windows ISO's.

I don't have the skill to use Ventoy.

Thank you in advance, would really prefer easy to use options, I'm just flashing a usb I would prefer to do it the easiest way possible.

r/linux4noobs on Reddit: Successfully created bootable Linux USB but Windows 11 won’t boot from it

What I did: disabled Secure Boot, disabled Fast Start in power options. Changed boot order in UEFI to boot from USB, and booting from main drive is disabled.

Nothing happens, it boots into Windows. It doesn’t even give me an error code. It’s as if I hadn’t done a thing.

The flash drive is in place when I restart, and somewhere I read it should be inserted after restarting, but this seems weird because if it’s not even in the drive it has even less reason to boot from there.

Now I’m thinking it might be Bitdefender. I’d hate to uninstall it for nothing, and uninstalling is the only thing that would stop BD if it really is the reason, so I’d rather rule out everything else first, but I don’t even know where to look anymore.

Any ideas what I’m overlooking? Thanks.
