Hi, · Try the following checks to see if the problem is in the charger, the charger cable or the speaker. · 1. Connect the speaker with the charger USB cable to a USB port on a working PC/laptop. (the user guide shows that the charger cable, USB cable standard plug charger end, micro USB plug speaker end, can be unplugged from the charger). · If the speaker charging light comes on then the charger is faulty and needs to be replaced. · You can charge the speaker by connecting it to a PC/laptop, however it will take longer to fully charge as there is less current being supplied by the PC/laptop than the charger. You can also use any charger e.g. from a mobile phone, provided it has an output (printed on the charger) of 5VDC (definitely not more or less) and a current output of 0.5-1.0A (500mA-1000mA) and that it has a micro USB connector. · 2. Connect a different USB cable between the PC/laptop and the speaker. · If the speaker charging light comes on then the USB cable is faulty and needs to be replaced. · If the speaker charging light still doesn't come on after trying the above checks then the problem is in the speaker. It could be the speaker charging port, the charging circuit or the battery. The speaker will have to be opened and checked to ascertain what the problem is. Answer from jayeff on ifixit.com

r/bose on Reddit: Bose Soundlink Color not charging
April 21, 2014 -

I've had this thing for about 2 weeks and it was working fine until yesterday. The battery died while I wasn't home and now when I plug it in to charge nothing happens. I've tried different outlets, different cables, nothing. I tried googling the issue but nothing comes up beyond the basic troubleshooting you can find in the product manual.

edit: Well I just left it plugged in and after a few hours it randomly started charging. I guess if it's going to do this any time the battery dies I'll just be careful to not let it die.

r/bose on Reddit: My color soundlink II stopped charging
June 9, 2023 -

I've had this bose color soundlink 2 for quite a few years now and it's still in pretty good condition however just this morning I woke up to find it dead (I usually have it quietly playing music while I sleep) so I plugged it in and it made the noise and showed the light that indicated that it was charging but quickly ended. After messing with it I'm noticing that it only charges for a moment then quickly dies. Is there a way to fix this or do I need to buy a new speaker?

I know this is an old post, but I wanted to try to spread the word out for those having issues. What you need: A micro USB charger and a computer. Go to the bose support page https://support.bose.com/ find your product. There is a firmware update install tool based on your product. Once you download the software there should be a page to detect the product. Install the firmware update "Bose Soundlink Color II literally has a patch for the no power issue." After the update completes attempt to power on your speaker, mine did not turn on right away. If after a few minutes still no power, unplug the speaker from the computer, get your wall charger and do the following. Step 1: disconnect charge power to the speaker Step 2: Press and hold on the power button on the speaker until you see the lights flash or for about 15 seconds. Step 3: Plug the USB back into the speaker on the speaker side of the USB and wait a few more minutes. Step 4: If it is still not charging, unplug the speaker from the wall charger side and plug back in. Step 5: rinse and repeat steps 1-5 a few times if it is still not charging. This is what got mine working again. Hope this helps!

Just tried this fix and it worked. Completely dead Soundlink Color II…would only show the orange power light for 1-2 seconds right after plugging into a power source. Went to btu.bose.com, downloaded and ran the installer, plugged in the speaker and it updated the firmware…charging now as we speak! FYI, no lights on the speaker during the whole firmware update process, so don’t be discouraged…as long as you’re seeing the progress bar going toward 100% it should be working. Thanks for the tip!
