The wired Bose SoundSport In-ears were a masterpiece and I don't understand why no one has replicated them
I have the wireless version of these (they are discontinued as well): same kind of winged tips, but with a neckband and Bluetooth support. I still use them occasionally, although they are starting to fall apart. I firmly believe that they were the perfect sports earphones: provide less isolation (so you can hear things happening when running, for example), secure fit thanks to the wings, don’t fall out easily (and even if they do, they get caught by the neckband). On top of that, they don’t sound too horrible (for a sports earbud at least). It’s a shame that this style of earphone is rare nowadays. More on reddit.com

Bose Quiet Comfort 35 II (QC35 II) Headphone Questions
I have a pair of Bose Quiet Comfort 35 II headphones. I am a little old fashioned in my music listening since I prefer a wired headphone connection while listening to music. I am not a big expert on headphones either. I have not used the Bose App for the headphones and do not have the app loaded... More on forums.tomshardware.com

Confused about wired vs bluetooth audio quality (QC45)
Yes. A wired connection is literally the audio signal as is sent to the headphones, speaker, etc. The music is not altered in any way during the process is it being sent to your headphones. Other than the digital signal being converted to an analog one. Bluetooth is different. It's taking the digital signal, keeping it digital, but compressing it again to a codec the headphones and phone, iPod, whatever both support. And in a quality that matches the bandwidth available to transmit it For example, Spotify might be sending a 256 kbps AAC file to you. 256 kbps is the quality where higher is better, AAC is the codec or file audio format. Your headphones might receive SBC audio at 128 kbps, so the audio quality is reduced. And the audio is compressed to begin with - getting compressed again to send again to Bluetooth. And each iteration of compression results in lost data, even if you match 256 kbps at both ends. On the other hand, if Spotify sends 256 kbps AAC and the headphones support 256 kbps, there shouldn't be additional compression. The above is all just random data. The Bose headphones support a wide variety of codecs and bitrates (the quality like 256 kbps). So yes, Bluetooth should still sound good, but a wired connection will always be better. There's just a lot more than can occur to affect the quality of Bluetooth audio. More on reddit.com

r/headphones on Reddit: The wired Bose SoundSport In-ears were a masterpiece and I don't understand why no one has replicated them
December 2, 2022 -

TL;DR - The wired soundsport pros filled a niche that somehow no longer exits. Earbuds that rest in your ear, but also have a wingtip. Plug style headphones are uncomfortable to many, and even cause headaches. I want my soundsports back :(

My girlfriend and I have been using the wired Bose Soundsports for years. I sleep with earbuds in, and as a result constantly break them. So when bose stopped selling them, and the reselling began it broke my heart. Currently on amazon you they resell for 100-500 dollars, for a product that originally cost $30. They can be found on ebay for 40 dollars, but inevitably only work in 1 ear. My girlfriend is dreading the day hers break, because to buy a functional pair of them that also work with android will cost her 500 dollars, and she'll likely pay it. That's how good these headphones are to us.

There seem to be 2 general types of earbud being produced the airpod generation 1 that simple rest in your ear and slip out easily. And the more popular and common earplug design. So popular that apple abandoned their previous design philosophy when sound isolation became a priority.

The earplug version creates a seal with your ear, isolating sound, and also trapping pressure inside your ear canal. For many people myself included this is incredibly uncomfortable. I have never found a pair of plug style earbuds that didnt give me a migraine after an hour of use.

The resting style is my prefered choice, but it too is flawed. Both with wired, and wireless versions they fall out of ears very easily. When I sleep with them I wake up and have to search the bed to find them.

There is an easy solution to this that almost noone seems to be using. Wingtips. However for some reason the industry has seems to unly use wingtips on earbuds that already have plug style design. Creating a double layer of security that is barely necessary. Rest style earbuds that need wingtips the most are almost non-existent, at least by my search. What few there are, are crude rubber addons that slip about and feel incredibly cheap.

In my search for a pair of headphones to replace the Bose Soundsports I only found 1 pair that was attempting to replicate the style, and it was a poor imitation that slipped off easily.

In the age of wireless earbuds and charging cases it is astonishing to me that not a single company seems to be filling this niche. It solves all the problems of the resting style earbuds, without the headaches associated with plug earbuds (for some). Given the resale value of the original wired bose soundsports I think its obvious there is a niche to be filled, and dear god do I wish some company would fill it. I am not a headphone snob in anyway. I break wired earbuds constantly so buy very cheap, and also have never spent more than 40 bucks on a pair of wireless earbuds. I just want something that will stay in my ear, and not give me migraines dammit.

Thank you for coming to my long winded rant about this. It's been bothering me for years and I can't believe no one else has picked up the ball.

Bose’s Top Headphones Get More Intuitive, but Are They Worth the Splurge?
October 23, 2025 - The functionality is similar to Apple’s AirPods Max, but better executed. Unlike the Max, you’re still getting a power key (and a real case), but the ability to slip them on and off so easily for playback is really handy. Bose claims the headphones can last for months in low power, so we’ll continue long-term testing.

[SOLVED] - Bose Quiet Comfort 35 II (QC35 II) Headphone Questions | Tom's Hardware Forum
February 11, 2021 - All buttons besides Power also do not work, to get ANC to work under wired mode you have to hit the Power button to toggle it on and off. 😕 ... Thank you for the response. I just want to confirm whether or not I understand your information correctly. 1. Pressing the buttons on the headphones when the Bose App or other Bluetooth capable setup is not present does not change anything on the headphones and the sound quality stays the same in wired mode both before and after I press the buttons.

r/bose on Reddit: Confused about wired vs bluetooth audio quality (QC45)
December 19, 2024 -

Hi! I've had my QC45 headphones for about two years. I've mostly used them to listen to music on spotify and have enjoyed the higher audio quality compared to my airpods. I recently revived an old iPod Nano of mine and have been amazed that when I listen to music through wired connection, the music quality is substantially better. When I listen to the same audio file on my iphone through bluetooth the difference is night and day. It just sounds so much better with the wire. I'm amazed that I've had these headphones for so long and didn't even know what they were capable of.

My question is, is the enhanced audio quality actually because of the wire? And if it is, how come? And is there a way to make my headphones perform similarly when connected through bluetooth? I adjust the EQ to my liking on my phone but nothing I've done has really compared to what I'm hearing now. Thanks!!
