r/bose on Reddit: Bose QuietComfort Ultra vs Bose QuietComfort
January 13, 2024 -

Hey y’all!

Currently in a bit of a dilemma on what headphones I should be getting.

My employer gets me access to Bose’s employee purchase program of sorts and I get a discount on certain products.

Currently, I can get The QC45 from BestBuy for $229 or the QC from my employer website for $269 or the ultras for $329.

Given these reduced prices, which one would be the best option especially given my levels of usage? I’d mainly wear them when I walk to work, travel or at the gym and that’s about it.

One thing to consider...the Ultra's tap controls are maddening. Unless you turn them off altogether, there's no way to make a single tap do nothing. Also no way to make touch and hold do nothing. And because they're super sensitive to touch, this means that every time you do touch them (to adjust them in your ears for instance) the music will pause or the noise cancellation will change modes, because the buds think you're single tapping or touch holding. And let's face it, no matter how well earbuds fit, they tend to need occasional fiddling. On the QC model, you can opt for a single touch or a touch and hold to do nothing. Meaning you have to double or triple tap to pause/play, skip tracks, etc (but only if you decide to set it up this way). Why Bose made the decision to change how the tap controls operate on the Ultras is baffling to me. This may not matter to a lot of people, but for me it was a deal breaker for the Ultras and I returned them and went with the QCs. Sound quality is still excellent and I can't tell the difference in the effectiveness of noise cancellation. The QCs don't have as many bells and whistles but at least I don't get the urge to throw them across the room.

QC vs QC Ultra is pretty simple. Comes down to 1. design preference, 2. materials, 3. do you have the extra money to spend, 4. do you care about immersive audio and some new bells, 5. Do you care about the weight of the headphones ANC is pretty close in both. My preference is ultra because headphones are once in a few years purchase and I like to get the best possible one they offer. You can order both from Bose, try them for week, return them and get from Bestbuy after.

May 20, 2025 - The new Quiet Comfort Ultra headphones have two buttons, but the volume is a touch-sensitive slider that doesn’t react well in my experience. The QC 35 II had the Bose Connect app and the Ultra uses a new app.

Bose QuietComfort vs. QuietComfort Ultra Headphones: We Put Both to the Test
May 1, 2025 - The standard QuietComfort headphones also sound great and feature customizable EQ in the app, so while the QC Ultra headphones have an edge in audio performance, they’re not a huge leap above the QCs. If you’re looking for enjoyable performance across a variety of genres, both options sound great. Bose QuietComfort (left) and QuietComfort Ultra (right) Jonathan Zavaleta/Rolling Stone

January 15, 2025 - The XM5’s sound, features and controls are also much more customizable than the Bose. All very compelling reasons to go for the Sonys instead. That being said, the QC Ultra’s Active Noise Canceling is simply more powerful, it fits better for me, more snug, using silicone tips specially designed to fit more gently.

r/bose on Reddit: QC vs QC Ultra Headphones
July 7, 2025 -

Just got a pair of QC in white smoke for our daughter and spent some time comparing against my Utras.

For me, the Ultras win in comfort. The earpads and headband cushioning are thicker and more plush. The QCs aren’t uncomfortable, but the thinner cushioning is noticeable.

In our house the ANC sounds and feels the same between the two. Any difference in quiet and aware mode is splitting hairs in a relatively quiet environment.

Both have Bose’s warm sound profile, but the QC is more forward sounding, so the soundstage isn’t as wide as the Ultras. The bass on the QC extends a little lower and has slightly more attack and definition than the Ultras.

The mids and highs are decently represented on both. The QCs are more forward/direct while the Ultras have a more delicate touch with both.

A couple of reviews I watched noted some channel imbalance with the QC and I hear it. Out of the box they favored the right side slightly or quite a bit depending on the song. I did a factory reset which helped, but I can still hear some imbalance and it’s still more prominent on some tracks vs others.

I like both and I think it comes down to preference in soundstage. Those who like a more forward punch may prefer the QC. Those who like more spaciousness may prefer the Ultra. I prefer the Ultras for classical and acoustic stuff, but I’d have no problem using the QC for punchy rock and pop stuff…especially if I were in the mood for more bass.

r/bose on Reddit: Bose QC or Bose QC Ultra?
December 23, 2023 -

Thinking of getting a pair of headphones for Christmas. Noise cancellation and comfort are the most important aspects for me.

What I like more about the QC is that they’re cheaper. The ultra seems to have a lot of complaints since it’s new so lots of glitches still, although noise cancellation is supposedly better but the question is by how much. I have construction near me so it’s important for the headphones to be able to block it out as I work from home.

I guess I’m wondering if the Ultra is worth the higher price tag?

Bose QC Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) vs Bose QC Ultra Headphones (1st Gen): which headphones are better? | What Hi-Fi?
September 16, 2025 - The Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) launched at £449 / $449 / AU$699. That's the same price as their predecessors in the UK, but $20 / AU$50 more expensive in the US and Australia respectively. Of course, the real difference is rather greater. The original QC Ultra Headphones have dropped to £299 recently, but we've also seen the 2nd Gen model get an early discount to £399 – so there's £100 between them.
