August 12, 2017 - Simple answer: you aren't going to beat Bose for noise cancelling (they really are the best in the world), and no passive closed-back headphone (let alone an open headphone) is going to be really suitable for airplane use or anything like that. My advice would be to keep the QC15 (and avail yourself of replacement parts) for travel/outdoor use, and then concentrate on a headphone for your majority at-home use, which can be whatever you want it to be (I'm assuming your at home environment isn't so loud that open headphones would be a problem).

January 9, 2011 - I've done a ton of research on the Bose headphones over the past few weeks. I tried the QC15, OEi2, AEi2, and QC3. In terms of sound quality, the QC15 were the best. They strike a nice balance of highs, mids and lows. The QC3s also sounded great but something about the on-ears (OEi included) that sounds a little muddled.

I have been blown away how long these headphones have lasted. They were purchased some time in 2010 and have been worn 8 hours a day 5 times a week since then. I’ve had to replace the ear cushions 3 times and the cord once. They just take AAA batteries (I got rechargeables) so no BS battery packs that you can’t service. They aren’t wireless but because of that they are super light weight. On the used market they go for ~$40 now a days and are totally worth it if your in the market.

December 30, 2012 - I have done quite a bit of research and listening on noise cancelling headphones, and can say that the Bose seem to have the best noice cancellation. however, able planet has VERY good noise cancellation, as well, and they are definitely cheaper. I can't say much about the sound quality, as i haven't done a sit-down listen session with a whole stack of these cans, yet.
