r/bose on Reddit: My QC45 won't power on
September 17, 2020 -

Hi, yesterday I did firmware update on my QC45. I've got the latest 2.0.4 version and everything was fine till morning. Device didn't turn on so I plugged them into usb-c port to charge. Couple hours later, they still can't turn on. When I press the 'power/bt' button nothing happens. No sounds, LED is blank. Reset or restoring factory settings didn't work for me. If I put them into usb-c port the LED turns orange and then white, after unplugging they're dead. Any ideas? Still got warranty so I'm thinking about RMA but I'm just coriuos if that's faulty firmware or bad luck.

PS. They are playing via mini-jack cable but without ANC

Product will not turn off - Bose QuietComfort® 45 Headphones
The auto-off setting lets your product automatically turn off and enter standby if it is not in use for a period of time. This is useful, for example, to conserve power in case your product is accidentally left powered on. By default, this feature is set to "Never." However, it's possible you or someone else may have adjusted the auto-off timer in the Bose App.

r/bose on Reddit: QC 45 Cannot Turn On Bluetooth
March 11, 2024 -

I’m worried I might’ve messed up my headphones. I’ve been using them on my laptop for a long time, well over a year or two or more, without setting them up with the Bose Music or Connect apps, since they worked just fine with the headphone jack, without needing to charge it. However, one of my older computer’s headphone jack does not seem to work any longer (I haven’t really tested this, it might just be my headphones) so I want to connect to it through Bluetooth, but I found I cannot make my QC 45 headphones turn on Bluetooth, and thus can’t set them up through the iPhone app.

I tried holding the switch to the right for about a minute (whether starting from left or from center) but it does nothing at all. I tried all the various factory reset tricks and they don’t seem to work. Could it be that I waited too long to set them up, and now the software is no longer compatible or something? Or is there something I’m missing?

EDIT: I feel so stupid. After days of trying over and over again, I tried unplugging the headphone jack cable from the earphones (I had no idea it came out, I thought I’d break it!) and it worked immediately. Thank you all for trying to help me, and sorry for wasting your time.

Same situation as you-- mine stopped working all of a sudden. They don't act like they used to. In pairing mode, I used to hear a guitar strum echo sound over and over, then all of a sudden it's a female voice saying "ready to connect" and nothing else. These things are such hot garbage. They lasted just long enough to outlive the warranty period before falling apart, and support is a total joke.

I removed all Bluetooth devices from my laptop, removed the headphones from my phone via the Bose app, then did a hard reset of headphones (hold switch to right + push button, light will flash white, then after 30 seconds will flash blue). Re-paired headphones, but still nothing worked-- it was only registering itself as an audio device and selecting headset microphone would mute the audio. Then I got my first BSOD in a decade, for IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (go figure). Rebooted. Still didn't work.

What fixed the issue was removing my Dell monitor (of all things) from the Settings > Bluetooth > Audio section (not the dialog box you show). I don't even know why it was listed in the Bluetooth section since it has no Bluetooth capabilities, though it does have speakers. Disconnected and reconnected headphones, and now I seem to have both stereo audio on calls as well as a functional headset microphone (hasn't worked this well since the day I bought the damn things. Hope they don't start popping and crackling again).

Note that at this time, my headphones are only connected to my laptop, not my phone, and no Bose app currently in the loop. The multi-device feature has been nothing but a headache for me.
