What is the difference between QuietComfort 45 Headphones, QuietComfort Ultra Headphones, and QuietComfort Headphones?
What do the Bose QuietComfort Headphones' EQ presets sound like?
The Bose Music App includes some EQ presets to adjust your sound. Though Bose still hasn’t provided a more fleshed-out equalizer for more granular control of your sound, you can use the three-band slider set to tinker.
Bass Boost EQ
Bose came through with a silly amount of low-end for those looking for more bass. This EQ preset will likely not satisfy those interested in sound quality.
Treble Boost EQ
Boosting treble is also not the way to go, as the frequency response already has that prominent peak at 6-8kHz, so could lead to a much more annoying sound.
Custom EQ
By switching to the custom EQ, you can tinker with how your music sounds using a 3-band slider. When we attempted to bring the sound of the Bose QuietComfort Headphones more in line with our preference curve, we found that just using the broad adjustments the app allows doesn’t get the results we wanted. We ended up with the bass slider to -2, the mid slider to +10, and the highs we left alone. This sounds worse than the default, and we don’t recommend this: it’s mainly a thought exercise rather than something we want users to listen to.
Can I change equalizer settings on my Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones?
Alright! I got the headphones and I want to share all my thoughts and everything I notice! I am an audiophile. But this is great info to have if you see yourself considering the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones. So I want to start off by saying listening on Bluetooth is no longer an issue! Bass sounds solid down to about 20hz on Bluetooth! With no artificial bass sounds which are present on the QC35’s and 45’s. This is a huge deal for any listener! It’s a whole new world when you have bass that is responsive and doesn’t sound artificial! There is no sharpness/fatigue in the treble regions! Which is amazing! It allows users who want a more treble forward sound to go right into the Bose music app and bump the treble up to their desires!… The harmonic distortion that is present on the QC35’s and 45’s is not present at max volume with the Ultras! BUT… the volume seems to diminish the more you turn the bass up on the headphones. Which is not cool at all. Bose could easily fix this in a update. I prefer my bass on around +4 or +5 with my treble sitting at +1 or +2 depending on the source. I listen on my iPhone 14 pro max via Spotify premium, Apple music payed subscription and tidal’s highest subscription offering. Each one offers things the other does not. But this isn’t a review of steaming platforms. It’s a review of the headphones! Yes these are the headphones to get! They are a absolute upgrade over the QC35’s and 45’s. My question I wish I could ask Bose is “why did you release the QC45’s knowing they were going to release these?” They were hardly a upgrade over the 35’s… I was not a fan of the NC700 sound quality so I returned them. Now onto the next question all of you reading have! The proprietary “immersive audio” experience bose offers is very nice for SPECIFIC GENRES. DO NOT EXPECT TO BE BLOWN AWAY IF YOU ONLY LISTEN TO RAP AND POP. Where the magic lies is with instrument and vocalist focused music. Anything acoustic, anything live. Anything vocal based… I’m gonna share some songs I had bad and good experiences with while listening in immersion modes. Songs like “growing pains acoustic” Alessia Cara sound way too artificial and un natural! Which was a let down! Then other songs like “Not about angels” By Birdy brought me to tears or “Stole the show live from Spotify studios” by kygo sounded just ok. but it did not bring me to tears. I noticed that the immersive mode really can diminish a lot of the “live echoic” ambience that the live recordings have. But it can also add to certain live songs. It’s definitely hit or miss depending on recording and genre… immersive audio is a hard topic unfortunately that many average consumers think will make their hip hop music will dramatically make every song sound better. It won’t… over all I’m in love with the natural bass Bose has finally manage to pull off with their QuietComfort line. And it’s a very very welcome upgrade. The smooth but semi laid back treble is much welcome especially knowing if I want a bit more sparkle I can simply go into the Bose music app and add more treble. And yes these settings do save when you use the aux input for gaming or if you are an audiophile like me and want the best quality possible. If this helped you! Let me know! I’m very happy with these and they will be replacing my Bose QC45’s.
