January 31, 2022My 1 year experience with the Bose Soundbar 900 and why I would not buy it again
To piggy back on this, there are a few TVs that specifically work horrendously with some of the Bose Soundbars. Notably a couple of the LG oled models and ton of the Samsung TVs. I have the Ultra soundbar and it was a nightmare getting the thing to work reliably. The issue comes mainly from HDMI CEC functionality where the TV and the soundbar are fucking up their handshake. Imagine you go to give a buddy a fist bump but he extends his hand out for a handshake. You both then switch, you go for the handshake and your buddy the fist bump. You both laugh and then both switch again. This goes on for eternity between the two. That's literally what's happening. Of course both the TV company and Bose point fingers at the other one saying that they fucked it up when it's the fact both need to just fucking sit down and get their shit together to work right. I still don't know exactly what I did, but on one of the power cycles everything synced up and worked reliably between my LG oled and the soundbar. Reliably is the keyword because I had so many issues with it in the past where it would work but then fail after switching inputs or some other ridiculous little thing that should never have fucked up the handshake. That being said, my samsung TV is a fucking nightmare. It fucks up with my xbox, it fucks up with Bose, it fucks up with playstation, airplay, and anything that's not samsung. I don't know what happened to that company but I always went with Samsung when I could. Even my fucking refrigerator is samsung. Now when I hear that name I practically get ptsd flashbacks. Companies need to start paying attention because they are losing lifelong customers. I've had tons of Bose sound systems over the last 20 years ever since I was blown away by a demo in Best Buy in my late teens. I'm sure as fuck going to reconsider the next time I need a sound system though because I'm also paying for the convenience and ease of use, which gets a little worse every new iteration. I have a 900 Soundbar (same SB but without the AI enhancements) in two different rooms, one with a 500 and one with a 700. If I had to choose though, the 700 does pack more of a noticeable punch but I feel the 500 sounds more balanced. Both sound great. Honestly you couldn't go wrong with either option. You would need to buy a receiver that has a subwoofer output and eARC or optical output. Hook that up to whatever your source video is, have it pass through to your TV, then hook either the eARC or optical out to the Bose sound bar. Wire the subwoofer to the receiver and you’re done. It’s not worth it though. Save your money for a bass module. They’re wireless and integrate with your abode sound bar. You can put them anywhere in the room and configure thing through one app. It’s better to pay a bit more, by the time you add a good receiver (at least $300) for Bose’s bass module. You cannot directly hook a 3rd party subwoofer up to a Bose sound bar.

So, it's been nearly a year now with my bose soundbar 900 and one of the main reasons for buying it was it's sleek design and of course the Dolby atmos functionality. Knowing Bose for good quality and good sound in general I bought it right away when it was on sale last year.
Although the sound is indeed very good, the one issue I continuously have is that it simply loses connection to whatever it claims to work with.
I stopped using it's "smart" feature just a few months after I bought it because it lost wifi connection (with the router being 2 meters in front of it). And no, doing a proper update of the soundbar never helped.
It also still randomly loses connection to my Samsung TV which it is connected to via hdmi arc. The only annoying way to make it work again is to disconnect the power cable and connect it back again. Until it loses connection in a few days again. Great. The best part is that there is not even a "restart this damn device" functionality via the remote, so you have to fucking disconnect the power cable.
This has been going for nearly a year now and I am extremely pissed off that I spent (wasted) hundreds of euros for such a unreliable soundbar.
This is just a warning for anyone who wants to buy one of these. I am aware that there are also people out there with no issues with the soundbar, congratulations to you lucky people. I just wanted to share my experience, since there is no review functionality on the bose page (maybe for a reason), where I bought my soundbar from.

Hello, I am currently using the bass module 500 with the 600 soundbar and rear 300 speakers in one room.
In a smaller home office room, I added a Ultra soundbar and it sounds good but I am used to the woofer in the other setup .
Is anyone using the 500 with the Ultra as well? Most reviews I read recommend the 700, but I really don't need to be overpowered.

Why not just move the 500 to the room with the Ultra and try it? I have a soundbar 900 with bass module 700 in my TV room and a 600 with bass module 500 in my bedroom. I've tried the 500 with the 900 and it sounds really good. But, the 500 lacks the definition. lower frequencies and attack of the 700...even at lower volumes its noticeable. it doesn't need to be overpowering...you can just dial back the power output in the Bose app to tone it down while still keeping the definition and lower frequencies. If you don't want to break the bank I think the 500 will give you 75% of the performance of the 700 for a lot less $$.

So I have a Bose 900 Smartbar with a Bose Bass Module... I came across a youtuber who says you can have a (3rd party) powered Klipsch subwoofer wired via a 3.5mm/RCA connection which is understandable. My question is, can you run both Bose Bass Module (wireless) and the wired powered Klipsch subwoofer at the same time together simultaneously? So that both subwoofers are outputting at the same time together. Is this possible? The reason why I ask is because I am thinking of going to Best Buy right now to buy a Klipsch and run it on the Bose 900 with my Bose Bass Module altogether. Has anyone tried it? If so, how does it sound, and how is it seen/viewed on the Bose Music App? I appreciate it!

A Klipsch sub will sound better then the Bose sub, I notice that the Bose sub is tune to get even the higher notes and the sub bottoms out or distorts and higher volume, but when you plug in a 3rd party sub then the sound output from the sub at high volumes still maintains depth
