I love my Flex. I do find it sounds way better on its back or vertical than standing upright. The Flex has position IQ which adjust its EQ based on the position. Have you tried it in different positions? More on reddit.com

The SoundLink Flex is rugged and sturdy enough to take everywhere. If it gets dirty, you can simply clean it off using (lukewarm) tap water and a microfiber cloth. Also make sure to rinse it with fresh water if it’s exposed to salt or chlorinated water. Don’t use a cleaning detergent or alcohol. Ensure the charging port is clean and dry before you connect it to power.

This is solely my opinion so YMMV. But I like to think I have good opinions so trust me.
After a lot of buying, comparing and returning, I’ve concluded that the Flex is the best BT speaker in its class. The sound is very crisp and detailed with a slight bump in bass and prominent vocals. Gets loud enough but not too loud. This isn’t an audiophile speaker but man it’s nice to listen to, it just engages you.
However, I found the real magic happens when you pair 2 Flex’s in stereo mode. Holy shit. These bad boys produce the best stereo image I’ve ever heard out of BT speakers and can easily fill a decent sized room with rich, high quality sound at around 75% volume. Most BT speakers I’ve had tend to sound muffled, distorted, or harsh at higher volumes but not the Flex. The fact that these have a long battery life, IP67 rating and are shock resistant is just the icing on the cake.
The app kinda sucks tbh but I do everything with the physical buttons on the speaker and have had no issues.
I found mine open box at Best Buy and paid just over $220 for both after taxes but they’re worth their full price imo.
tldr: One is great but two is the best $300 you can spend on BT speakers right now. Better yet if you can find them on sale.

While I agree that the sound quality is excellent with two Flex in stereo mode, putting them into stereo mode is a total pain in the ass and a total crapshoot. Every time you have to go into the Bose App and try to "connect" to one of the two speakers, even though they automatically connect via Bluetooth you still have to "connect" to it via the app. Which I have learned DOESN'T WORK IF MUSIC IS ALREADY PLAYING! It'll just spin for 3+ minutes then throw an error. Then you have to try to connect the second speaker to the first, which only seems to work 70% of the time. If it fails, they lock up, you have to kill the app and start over. Then if it does work it automatically starts in Party mode, which is absurd as the default option but whatever. Also, despite having turned the robotic voice option off, it loudly announces "PARTY MODE!" Then you have to switch it to Stereo mode, which also works about 70% of the time. If it fails, one of the speakers usually disconnects you have to reboot it and the app again! If it does work, it loudly announces "STEREO MODE! LEFT! RIGHT!" and then works normally. So yeah, sounds great once setup but takes 5-20 minutes of fiddling to get it to work every single time you turn them on.
