Rear surrounds make a huge difference when watching movies. Also if you pump up the levels they work for music as well (not the same as Sonos, more like Dolby pro logic music mode). If new models are released they will most likely retain the same wires and power/transmitter box. To me the box is not an issue at all. They provide really long cables so you can run them through the walls. You can go with the standard Surround Speakers (formerly VI 300) or the newer Surround 700. IMO the 700 ones aren’t worth the extra money, however they are much better looking. More on reddit.com

i've tried the bose speakers and i must admit, they should probably stick to portable bluetooth headphones and speakers. I tried the bose full home theatre setup with sound bar, surround speakers, woofer, e.tc.(around 1400 dollars in india), returned them because the surrounds sound wasnt to my liking and then i boug htthe onkyo full 5 speaker and subwoofer setup (around 700 dollars in india) and it was a 100 times better in terms of surround sound experience, they've got like 11 different modes for surround sound itself and the atmos mode is so good, if it's raining in the movie, it actually sounds like there's rain coming from directly above. I game on ps4 pro as well and i don't even need headphones to hear exactly where the enemy player footsteps are coming from. I also listen to music on it a lot and play dolby atmos music on the onkyo, which sounds beyond amazing. They even sent a technician at no extra cost to setup and calibrate the speakers to my living room. I would recommend you to return the bose speakers and pick up the onkyo ones. even if they don't send a technician in the US, it's very easy to set up and calibrate(takes about 20-30 mins). If you want true cinematic surround sound and dolby atmos, onkyo is the best one on the market rn. More on reddit.com

Yeah it’s definitely worth it. I have the soundbar 900 and the bass module 500 with the virtually invisible 300 surrounds and they sound great. Especially if you watch Dolby Atmos movies or games. More on reddit.com

Been debating getting the Bose Surround Speakers to pair with my Soundbar 500 for a few years. It feels like they haven’t updated them in a while and I keep thinking a new model will drop as soon as I buy them. Anyone have any insight into potential upgrade for this model?
Also, I’ve read lots of reviews and seen all the complaints about the wires and power converter box - any strong feelings one way or another on whether these are even worth it?

I bought them for my 700 and love them, i don't mind the wires/box since it's fairly easy to hide depending on your space.
